Everybody said that Split Rock has great burgers…and they weren’t wrong. The burgers are fresh, Angus beef and are cooked to perfection. I knew it from the first bite that this was a good one. Plates come with fries or side salad (why my plate is empty.) They also have a full bar and carry local, quality Montana bourbon, gin, tequila, etc. and have good sounding signature drinks. The dinner menu has steaks, coho salmon and pastas too. I’m here in Bigfork for a little while and will certainly be back. Thanks ladies and gentlemen for doing such a great job!

My experience at Split Rock was… well, split.

It started off strong—the host greeted us warmly and quickly set up a table for my mom and me. We were given the option to sit outside (which was quieter), but we chose to stay indoors, even though it was a bit loud.

The hostess was upfront and let us know the kitchen staff was under stress, so food might take a little longer. I appreciated the heads-up. Despite that, our server was attentive, and our food arrived sooner than expected.

I ordered the fish and chips, and they were great—crispy, beer-battered, and flavorful. My mom got the Reuben and also really enjoyed it.

The drinks, though, were just okay. I had an Old Fashioned, and my mom tried the Huckleberry Mule. Neither of us loved them. That said, the restaurant does offer drink pairings with food, and they have an impressive selection of Montana beers, plus spirits sourced from within the state. So if you’re looking for a locally-driven experience, Split Rock delivers on that front.

All in all, while the service and food were solid, the drinks fell short, and the atmosphere inside wasn’t quite our vibe. I personally wouldn’t return—but I wouldn’t discourage others from trying it out. Especially if you’re curious about Montana-made beverages and supporting a newer spot with potential.

GNP is the best burger ever!! If you are a huckleberry fan, this is the one, bacon you said.. oh there is bacon.. cheese, let’s talk cheese! Goat cheese, creamy, fluffy and utter bliss delicious! Every time I come in, I find myself wanting to work here just to embrace the vibe, the smell, the utter bliss of the amazing smells of pure savory goodness! Back to the job part, I have my own business with no time, but it still is tempting! All of their food is amazing, don’t get me wrong. All of my family orders different things, but I am a burger snob.. my all-time favorite food ever and I am telling you, this is the one! Hold please, their Prime Rib on Thursday is fabulous.. Give them a try, I promise you won’t regret!

Had a burger craving, so we stopped here on the way to our hotel and DAMN! I swore after I would never eat again, cause I felt full for life, but of course I have. We had a burger each with 2 sides to share and we could’ve EAAAASILY just shared one burger instead. Very hearty, very tasty, super filling, they’re definitely generous with portions here and as a European, even thinking about this meal 2 months later makes me feel full!

The bacon wrapped dates were delightful! My girlfriend managed to eat everything in front of her in one sitting, which is a testament to how good her large Split Rock Salad was! And I would give my prime rib 3 thumbs up if I could!
Definitely glad we stumbled upon this place

Having dinner arrived early took about 15 minutes for 5 servers gathered around the PSOr talking around not knowing what they’re doing. It took 45 minutes to get one cocktail for 2 people of 4 tables. If not for the young man we could see cooking the delicious steaks and prime rib and young gentleman in the back could see working to produce great food this restaurant. Simply, the food was delicious and the service was terrible. Dec. 2025

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I didn’t really like the taste of their water but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the nice pancake breakfast. I saw someone order the breakfast burrito and man that looked good and I feel like I would have enjoyed it. I am definitely going to try it next time.

After reading the reviews, we decided to go here for breakfast, what a mistake!
Although the food was tasty, the waitress, Samantha, never introduced herself or came to check on us only because we were asking the hostess for refills.
They wanted to charge $3 for a second tea bag fit. Ridiculous!
My salad did not come with any crackers or complimentary little dinner roll, I had to use my husband’s crust to scoop up the last of my salad.

Went there spur of the moment with my wife. She had the chicken Alfredo, and loved it. I Had the greatest burger I’ve had in a long time. Great staff. The owners are awesome.

Honestly, for the price of the food, the service and atmosphere absolutely did not match. After looking at the menu, you would expect a stand alone building with adequate seating, but instead you get hit with tables not even six inches away from the family next to you and you’re hugging the table due to very limited walking room in a strip mall area right next to Subway.

We were not greeted by the host or asked how many in our party (even though there were only two of us) and instead she said with no enthusiasm, “There’s about a 25 minute wait, is that okay?” We had planned our night here and weren’t going to go elsewhere, so we said that’s fine, even though we didn’t see anyone else waiting. I sit down on one of the two chairs in front of the host stand as she’s gathering menus and silverware and proceeds to say, “I meant for the food, I have a table.”

We sit down, and wait several minutes before our server comes over to get our drink order. I finished my glass of water and noticed that the server had checked in with the table next to us 3 or 4 times already, and they were essentially finished with their meal but had yet to receive the check. There seemed to be no sense of urgency in the serving staff, as there were 3 servers and 1 host for maybe a total of 10 tables in the small space. No one smiled or wore any kindness on their face. Most servers actually try to work for their tips, but they all seemed like they couldn’t care less if they got a tip or not. Mind you, my partner and I were dressed up nice as it was my birthday and I thought it would be more of an upscale facility based off the menu.

They serve prime rib on Thursdays, but apparently sell out in 45 minutes, likely only to those that were still seated in the restaurant. They said they only had one piece left, when both my partner and I ordered one, and it was medium when we both ordered it rare. I hadn’t bothered looking at other menu items due to wanting the prime rib. I still ordered it, but honestly regret my decision. It was very bland and tough to chew, the au ju was the saving grace. The potato was cooked well, but the veggies were slightly under. The entree also came with a soup or salad, which came out barely one minute before the main course did. The soup was good and homemade.

Overall, if you’re okay with poor service and servers who don’t care about their job and want decent food, this place is fine. But to me, for the price, I would choose to go somewhere where the staff actually smile. Take it as you will.
