Social Profile:

Our kitchen is a tapestry of aromatic stews (wats), tender grilled meats (tibs), and naturally fermented injera, the iconic sourdough flatbread that anchors every meal. Whether savoring the fiery depths of berbere spice in Doro Wat (chicken stew) or the earthy simplicity of Shiro (spiced chickpea puree), each dish tells a story of heritage and home. We proudly cater to diverse palates, offering an array of vegan and gluten-friendly options, ensuring everyone gathers around the mesob (traditional woven basket) in joy.

Wonderful authentic food. A friend of mine said it brought her back to the time she lived in ethiopia. I highly recommend the beef tibs. Sambosas are amazing!

This would be a perfect place to unwind and relax with someone you love. We will be back.

It’s my first time there, excellent food! Des Moines has some wonderful African food, this might be at the top of my list after one lunch. The staff were incredibly hospitable and friendly, the restaurant is incredibly clean. I will definitely be back to try more of what they have to offer.

If you’re looking for authentic food and culture, this is a great place to try something unique and different. Everything is made fresh, they even make their own honey wine! Experience their coffee ceremony on the weekends!

I often eat at this authentic Habesh restaurant near my workplace, usually during lunch breaks. The Veggie Combo is my favorite, and I’ve also had the Kunta Firfir a couple of times. Genet and Solomun are always welcoming.

Finally! ❤️ We have been trying to eat here since they opened, and we finally made it happen. We went all out and probably should have brought friends- both meat lovers and vegan. There was so much delicious food to eat. Get the beyaynetu ethio chicken stew combo (chicken tibs, lamb tibs, doro wot, gomen, lentils) if you’ve never had Ethiopian/Eritrean food before- you’ll get a variety. We’re coming back for beef tibs and then again for coffee (bunna) ceremonies on the weekends! The atmosphere and staff are welcoming. I fell in love with Ethiopian/Eritrean food while living in NYC, and there were some nice spots in Seoul, South Korea. When we first moved here, we were excited about Gursha, but we missed the full, warm, family style, sit down experience, which is what Habesha offers. Great for dates, families, or events. If you’re looking for honey wine, I am not sure if they serve it or if they serve any alcohol (yet). I swear, I am getting nothing for this review. They just deserve the praise. I also want excellent local and diverse restaurants to thrive where I live. 🙂

We were passing through Iowa and stopped in Des Moines for dinner. We found Habesha Ethio Eritrean on Google maps and decided to stop there. The service was very good. Being new to Ethiopian food the owners were more than helpful helping us decide what to try. We shared the Ethio chicken stew major combo. It was amazing and plenty for the two of us to share. Our next trip through Iowa will include a stop here for a meal!
