Back Alley BBQ in Dickson, TN brought our crew of college buddies back together after two decades apart — and honestly, the ribs deserve most of the credit. We came for nostalgia and questionable decision-making, but we stayed because the ribs tasted like someone smoked them using the tears of angels and the hardwood from Noah’s Ark.
Walking in, we looked like a group of dads who still think they’re 22, trying to recreate glory days that probably weren’t that glorious. But the ribs didn’t judge us. They welcomed us. They hugged our tastebuds in ways none of us have been hugged since the early 2000s.
By the end of the meal, we were arguing about who aged the worst, whose hairline was in witness protection, and whether we could bribe the kitchen for one more rack “for old times’ sake.” The answer is yes. Always yes.
If you’re looking for a place to reunite with old friends, rekindle brotherhood, and eat ribs so good you’ll briefly consider moving to Dickson — Back Alley BBQ is your spot.
10/10. Would relive our youth and destroy our diets here again.
Food was above average but not exceptional. Ribs had great bark and flavor, but seemed to be overcooked as they were a big mushy once you got through the bark.
The pulled pork was really good with great flavor. We will go back, but it most likely won’t be our top choice.
UPDATE: Second visit-I stated that I would be back for the meatloaf and glad I did. Perfectly seasoned with just enough smoke flavor which was delicious! Excellent choice available on Tuesday!
