Everything is so delicious, fresh and homemade. Best vegetable soup I’ve ever had! The ladies who work there are so sweet. We had a large group and they were very helpful and accommodating. Everyone in our group had delicious soup and sandwiches. I can’t wait to go back again!

This restaurant has been a staple to the Oak Ridge community for several decades, and is worth checking out.

The Food: Every day, they serve different styles of soup, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. During this visit, I tried the chicken & dumplings soup, with a side of brown bread, and lemon pie. The soup was incredible. Perfectly tender chicken, and good portions of it. Cracker Barrel ain’t got nothing on this place. The brown bread also is worth getting. I’ve tried the white bread before, and it was okay but bland. The brown bread has so much flavor to it. Next time, I’ll skip dessert though. I don’t recommend it, unless you’re into cafeteria style desserts.

The Dining Area: A little awkward to navigate, but they have a decent amount of seating, and tons of historical decor on the walls about the Manhattan Project days. The place could use a facelift, but it’s got plenty of charm, and feels cozy.

The Staff: Very friendly, polite, and helpful.

Restrooms: One for men and one for women. Seemed decently clean and well kept.

The lady was very helpful when navigating took us to the wrong spot (imagine that ) our first time here! The chicken and dumplings is the best southern style chicken and dumplings I have ever had!! The chili is good! The white bread that is made fresh is amazing! The Mexican style cornbread is good, a tad dry for me but not everyone likes the way I like mine either so it’s just my opinion! Overall the service was great and the food we had was great as well! Thank you to the staff, well done!

OH MY GOODNESS!!! I popped into The Soup Kitchen on a whim this evening – I was in the mood for soup since it’s fall and it felt right for a Friday night – and I am SO happy I did. The crab chowder was INCREDIBLE and the roll (I got white bread) was absolutely delicious. Like so good I could probably eat 6 in a sitting. And to top it off, some of the BEST Coconut Cream Pie I have ever had. I will absolutely be coming back to try more!

I go in to eat soup that is hot!!! The soup is barely hot, the cornbread is cold. The servers always over fill my bowl, a nasty mess. The unsweetened tea was empty and the silverware is nasty. I believe in supporting local businesses, but I do not want to get sick either. Sausage and hamburger should not be served barley worm. They have a steam table and a wormer for the bread. Steam on the table, no heat on the soup. Im done with this business!

I had lunch with my Brother & Sister- awhile back & Everything is Great- even the Vegetarian Soup is amazing & their Brown Bread is better than any other I have tried!! Everyone is very nice & some people look at you- like you’re crazy, if you prefer meatless soup, well If they know me- that’s true, I will admit that I am a little bit crazy . They All deserve at least 10 stars, but if you have the chance to go there, you’ll be a repeat guest ❣️

Amazing. After 8 years of working in Oak Ridge I finally decided to try The Soup Kitchen and all I can say is wow. I got in just before the lunch rush and got the tomato soup and 3 cheese grilled sandwich. Firstly, that tomato soup is more of a stew it is so thick and simply amazing but that grilled cheese was next level, even plain. I will certainly not wait 8 years to return.

Django wholeheartedly approved. The rotating list of soups always includes at least one vegetarian and gluten free soup, and they are all delicious. Today I had bean & bacon soup, which paired wonderfully with their brown bread ($1.85), also served warm. Reminds me of the bread my mom would make from scratch when I was little. This is definitely a staple for lunches.

I order soup kitchen from Door Dash 2-3 times per week. It’s around $20 bucks for 2 soups, a bread and the delivery tip. You simply can’t beat that price! I’ve never had a soup from here that wasn’t a 10/10. Do yourself a favor on a Wednesday and get a Snow Crap Soup and dip their cheese bread in it!

Our visit to the Soup Kitchen was the first time in years. We made the deliberate side trip visit as a remembrance of the time we lived in Oak Ridge about 25 years ago. The place was just as quaint as always and the food is still the best soup and sides around. The variety of soups and bread can’t be matched. Generous portions are the mainstay with delicious choices. If you are in the area make the trip to the Soup Kitchen.
