El Barrio (meaning the neighborhood in Spanish) Cantina & Tequila Bar was developed to be a warm and welcoming neighborhood hangout with a rustic Mexican look and feel with a scratch menu and a new twist on Mexican comfort and style. Our distinct interior for El Barrio was developed much in the way we approach out menu, with a vision of combining old with new. We started by scouring the local area and found distinct reclaimed wood beams and church pews which were a perfect fit to incorporate into our custom tabletops and wall treatments throughout. // Tex-Mex Restaurant, Happy Hour, Mexican Restaurant
Lofty Mexican joint with a chic, wood-clad interior offering homestyle chow & craft cocktails.

The service was attentive and friendly, but they also gave us enough time and space to enjoy our meal and conversation. We appreciated that they didn’t rush us out of our table. We also enjoyed the live music that added to the lively and festive vibe of the restaurant.
We had a wonderful time at El Barrio Cantina & Tequila Bar and we would definitely come back again. We recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a fun and delicious dining experience with a Mexican flair.
I enjoyed the Shrimp and chorizo quesadilla, fried plantains, fig and bacon guacamole, and smores empanadas. Every was awesome.
Our large party still had a fun night and we will come back again to give them another try.
Nit sure why things have gone downhill but won’t be back!

Just saw that El Barrio is closing next week. Wish them well in their next venture!
I have come here twice which is a 45 minute drive – one way. I love good beer and food and this place has no shortage of that with an epically good draft list, bottle shop and tequila selection. With Maine Lunch, Lawson’s Sip of Sunshine and Bell’s The Oracle on tap clearly the owner knows what he is doing and caters to those seeking fine craft beer and who are willing to drive a long distances for such beverages.
The food on both occasions, fish tacos and the marinated pork burrito, were very well prepared with flavors that easily surpass other Mexican restaurants in a 25 mile radius. The portions are appropriate and not the obnoxiously oversized piles of rice and beans common to Mexican fare.
But now to the wait staff which is truly an enigma to behold. The host all of maybe 16 years old was cleaning tables upon our arrival which I don’t have much of issue with if there are no customers waiting to be seated. However, table clearing is the responsibility of a busser not the host. We along with everyone, literally everyone after us waited to be seated as he bussed tables. This continued throughout our entire dinner with some customers walking to the bar to complain about not being seated. Meanwhile the owner, an older nice gentleman, was calmly seated off at a side table reading the newspaper as though he was home on a lazy Saturday morning. Pro Tip: hire a busser whose primary task is to clear tables not seat people or serve food. Train the host to greet people with a smile and with a small amount of enthusiasm.
In passing our waitress apologized twice BEFORE ever taking our order. A full 15 minutes passed without water, chips & salsa or beer. Just an occasional apology. Pro Tip: don’t apologize without being specific and never apologize more than once. It makes the customer uncomfortable. Also, chips & salsa with water all around go a long way in keeping the customer happy when the wait staff is busy.
It was strange to see both waitresses on many occasions running, yes actually running from table to table to kitchen. Pro Tip: running in a public food establishment sends a very negative vibe and calls the attention of all patrons. Don’t do it unless in an emergency.
Running up to our table the waitress took our beer and food order and ran off to the next table. Almost 15 minutes passed with no beer. With only two people at the bar the bartender should not be helping serve food – he should be… tending the bar. Finally our freshly poured, seasonal, hard to find, IPAs arrived unfortunately with the waitress bear hugging them into her bosoms from carrying too many things and then saying to us, “Who here ordered some beers?”. Nope, these aren’t a pitcher of Miller Lite at a local dive – these are expensive craft beers. She had no idea what beers they even were and I, not meaning to be pretentious, sipped them for identity. Certainly the beer was delicious but not the experience I was looking for. Pro Tip: If you are going to serve craft beer on tap know how to pour it, what you pour, how to carry it and who ordered it. I represent a huge community of people who will pay top dollar for good beer. Get it right or we will never come back and even worse we will spread the word to skip your establishment entirely.
So wait time in total: to be seated (4 minutes), waiting to place food/beer order (15 minutes), waiting for beer (15 minutes) still waiting for food (20 minutes). Total time: 54 minutes to eat in a restaurant half full.
El Barrio – stop reading the paper and properly train your wait staff!
