I’m not gonna lie. I thought I might die the first time I walked in to this place. I was camping at Villenueva State Park and had foolishly run out of beer. This was recommended as the closest/only place I could get more. When I walked in it was mid-afternoon. There was some guy staggering around drunk in the middle of the road out front. Once I stepped in the door, and over the super friendly pooches who were hanging out inside, you could hear the needle skip off the record. All of the regulars gave me that “you clearly aren’t from around here” look. Except for the two guys at the front table. They never stopped their argument over whether the one guy’s cousin was really in jail for killing somebody. Just when I thought sobriety might be my best options for the next few days, the woman behind the counter stepped up to help me out. Talk about friendly. She was extremely patient while my credit cards were initially declined, because even my bank apparently thought I must’ve been kidnapped and should not be spending my money in this part of the country. Once things were sorted out, she had me taken care of and even talked her dad into selling me some firewood from the pile out back. I was so pleased with the service and friendly folks that I stopped back in a few days later and picked up some more firewood. This place is a must see if you are in the area.
