Drunken noodles were well flavored with wok smokiness. Wish it had thicker noodles. These are more of a medium than a wide noodle.
Basil fried rice did not have much basil. Overall great flavors, and chicken was seasoned well.
Thai Boat Noodles was recommended and interesting to try. Mix of a pho style with thai added flavors to the broth. Likely would not get it again but it was fun to try and good!
Our critique would be that they have a “Combo” menu but it doesn’t save you any money, and just locks you into specific items instead of being able to choose. Just order the items separate.
1. On the actual receipt, I did not write a tip amount because I placed $4.50 in cash (a 10% tip, exactly as I stated) directly into the cashier’s tip box. I hope the security camera confirms this. The photo I posted was from a friend’s receipt as an example.
2. We were a group of 4 adults and 1 kid. Not 6 people. Why did Thai Palm say there were 6 people? Did the poor lady see a ghost? If so, I feel ardently sorry for her and pray for her health.
3. We separated into 3 bills. I myself tipped $4.5. I don’t know how much my friends tipped because I had no right to decide for them. As long as they tipped as well, it should not be “each person one dollar” as Thai Palm claimed.
4. I’ve heard that some restaurants may add an automatic gratuity for large groups. Unfortunately, the lady failed to disclose the 20% gratuity charge in advance. Nor was there relevant signal on the menu whatsoever. This charge came out of the blue, hence unacceptable.
5. I always tip conventionally even when I receive mediocre service. I know no one lives easily. But Thai Palm, look what you made me do.
Guys, beware of the gratuity charge rate on your receipt!!! We had lunch here. Some dishes were too salty so we thought about tipping 15% instead of 18%.
Here comes the drama: on our receipts, there was automatically a 20% gratuity charge. We requested to change the rate, but the lady said the rate had been programmed in the computer and she wasn’t able to tweak it, meaning we would HAVE TO tip 20%!
How can the restaurant preset the tip rate? Outrageous! The lady discussed with her colleague and came to ask us how much we would tip. Much offended, we replied “10%”. Then the lady disagreed, saying “18% at least”!
How interesting, a restaurant is demanding the tip amount nowadays? We spent a long time quarrelling and paid the bill with a 10% tip in the end.
But Thai Palm, your customers would have tipped much more if you hadn’t arrogantly preset the tip rate.
If you’re looking for a delightful dining experience in North Charleston, look no further than Thai Palm! From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality that set the tone for the evening. The service was second to none—attentive without being intrusive, making us feel valued guests throughout our meal.
We started our culinary journey with two appetizers that were simply divine. The Shrimp in a Blanket was a perfect blend of crunch and flavor, featuring succulent shrimp wrapped in crispy egg roll skin. The Vegetarian Egg Roll, also deep-fried to golden perfection, was packed with fresh vegetables and spices, making it a delightful start to our meal.
We indulged in a trio of mouthwatering dishes for our entrees that showcased the vibrant flavors of Thai cuisine. The Basil Fried Rice with Chicken was a standout, brimming with fresh basil, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, snow peas, and broccoli—each bite was a harmonious explosion of taste. The Green Curry with Chicken was equally impressive, with tender chicken mingling with bell peppers, peas, basil leaves, bamboo shoots, and eggplant in a rich, aromatic curry sauce with just the right kick.
We also tried the Thai Salad, Neua Nam Yok, which featured perfectly seasoned beef tossed with cilantro, red and green onions, all brought together with a zesty lime juice and fish sauce dressing. It was refreshing and packed with flavor, a perfect complement to our other dishes.
Every dish we tried was delicious and beautifully presented, making it a feast for the eyes and the palate. The experience at Thai Palm was a lovely blend of taste, service, and atmosphere.
We highly recommend Thai Palm to anyone seeking authentic Thai cuisine in a welcoming environment. We can’t wait to return for another round of their incredible dishes!
