Okay, let’s be honest about what my wife and I were looking for in terms of a dining experience today. First of all, it was a Saturday morning – late morning. We were hankering for a good breakfast place, one we hadn’t been to before, and, quite frankly, in the diner, “greasy spoon” category. I know that sounds demeaning, but that is truly what we wanted to find – you know, a place where you can get some bacon and eggs with hash browns and a big cup of hot coffee. With personable waitresses (not “servers”) who stop and chat and make jokes with you about how you might should feel a bit ashamed at eating all that AND a big serving of biscuits and gravy, all the while holding a steaming glass carafe of not-too-bad coffee to “warm you up.” Well, that’s what we found today. It’s been there all this while, but the first time we came, it was closed for repairs. And we just never made the effort to drive 14 minutes down the road to try it – until today. On the drive down, my wife and I shared sentiments about finding a “Saturday morning breakfast place” where we felt at home – someplace local, relatively close to home, and unpretentious, comfortable, and not afraid to serve food with meat and gluten, and where over-easy and over-medium are predictable. We found the diner that we have been yearning for, witty waitress and all. But the one thing we didn’t get was a greasy spoon. So I stirred the cream into my coffee with the butt end of my fork.

Patty’s is a country kitchen, just like Grandma made. Had the ground steak with Mac and cheese and fried okra. I wasn’t crazy about the Mac n cheese as it wasn’t creamy the way I like it. Everything else was good with a little salt. Mo had the meatloaf with green beans and potatoes. She said hers was ok but not a lot of flavor. Country diner setting and I didn’t realize the lions club still sold brooms.

First when you walk in I almost tripped on the black rug with holes in it. Then I had to use bathroom it was about 4 or 5 steps UPSTAIRS. Then the commode is so low to the ground it’s hard to get up. Ordered everything I ordered chicken strips with fries and onion rings. Yuck. The chicken is so extremely small it’s not even worth the price and the portions are tiny. Small amount of fries and onion rings. Went without a drink for several minutes and had to actually flag someone down in order to get a drink. The food was very disappointing and nasty. The chicken didn’t taste good. The fries tasted just like fries should and the onion rings were dripping with grease and oil. I feel nauseous after eating this food and will not be returning. I actually had Patty herself come to the table and asked was this the norm for the food and she looked proud of the chicken and said yes. I made a special trip here all the way from Christiansburg. Choose this place due to the highly recommended reviews.

Comfort food at its finest! Breakfast all day, which is hard to find anywhere any more, made it nice for those of us that still wanted breakfast while others of us wanted lunch. Everything was delicious, fresh & seasoned perfectly. Mac & cheese and potato cakes were outta this world, and the country fried steak was crispy & yummy. Our waitress was awesome & very friendly. The prices were extremely reasonable as well.

Found this quaint little restaurant located right on top of a slope while passing through VA from PA to TN. It was kinda like a regular hangout for the local old folks and church-goers. It was a Sunday when we were there so people were pretty much well-dressed right after church. Husband and I were travelling on the road from east to west in our tees and jeans, so we felt pretty out of place, but, we were instantly welcomed by our friendly server who made us feel right at home. It was busy at the time we arrived so we waited quite a bit for our food. Pancakes were soft and crispy, the kind that melts in your mouth, sausage patties were extremely delicious, but the hashbrowns was a little too bland from what we are used to. Overall, we had an excellent brunch. Highly recommended if you happen to pass by like we did.

Quiet little dinner, delicious filling servings of food. Friendly and welcoming staff.
A place that seemed frequented by regulars. Self seating, pay at the cash register. Cute and nice place!
Variety seating, booths and regular tables.

My wife ordered the hamburger steak, green beans, and pinto beans. I ordered the Dublin Trio (meatloaf, country ham, chicken strips) with pinto beans, and green beans. The meatloaf wasn’t ready, so I ended up receiving the chicken strips and country ham. Both were good; although I was disappointed I didn’t receive the meatloaf. The chicken strip was a breaded chicken pattie cut in half. The country ham was juicy and perfectly cooked. Both our green beans and pinto beans were delicious. It did take a while to receive food; but they were down a cook in the kitchen.
Atmosphere was inviting and our waitress was awesome. It was a fun place to go mostly because of our waitress. She was sarcastic and playful. Definitely recommend Patty’s Kitchen.
Update: back the next day. They did me a solid and gave me a piece of meatloaf! Absolutely like mom used to make. Ground beef with green bell peppers, onions, and seasoned perfectly. Mashed potatoes also real potatoes, white gravy was good. In Sunday they have a salad bar, ranch dressing is homemade and everything was fresh!
Again, everyone was super friendly and attentive. I took a picture of the gal who gave me such a hard time, she said her name was Carmen Sandiego; but I don’t think that was her real name. ;~) Love this place; and if we’re ever back in the area e will definitely return.

Sk very delicious and very affordable. Excellent breakfast food for an awesome price. Staff is very friendly. All 3 of my pictures are my combo breakfast. Lol, sitting, they called the big breakfast. It was huge and delicious. And hot…..I hate cold breakfast foods that are supposed to be hot. Also my eggs were perfect. I prefer them scrambled and well done and they were exactly the way I wanted them. You could easily eat here for less than $10 per person mine was a little more because I had a huge breakfast with leftovers.

On our most bodacious road trip, we dropped in at Patty’s Kitchen in Dublin, Virginia for breakfast. We walked in and were immediately met with a big smile and a warm welcome. I knew this was my kinda place.
I had an omelet and baked apples, with coffee of course. It was more food than I should have tackled, but I gave it my best attempt. The food was really tasty and the service was great. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend.
