Downtown Alpharetta’s newest culinary adventure is authentically Italian. We enjoyed dinner there on a Thursday evening and had a wonderful experience. These folks try hard to please. The food speaks for itself but the customer service shines! We were only able to try a few dishes but I wouldn’t hesitate to order all of them again. We started off with the Veal Meatballs. Four to an order, they were light and fluffy and served with a home made pomodoro sauce, grated grana padano cheese and a sprinkling of some type of gremolata that added a bright, fresh flavor and a bit of texture. We also tried the artichoke hearts with limoncello dipping sauce. They arrived hot, and perfectly fried without being oily. They were served topped with a sprinkling of grated cheese and another crunchy gremolata. As for pasta, we had the Pappardella. It’s topped with both a short rib bolognese AND a pistachio béchamel. Are these sauced mixed together? Are they layered separately? Who knows and who cares because the resulting dish was a plate full of wonderfully balanced deliciousness. The cheesy, creamy, savory fat ribbons of perfectly cooked fresh pappardelle are also topped with grilled scallions, pickled celery (just a touch) and Parmiano-Reggiano.
Last but not least, the wine list. It’s varied and extensive. Being relatively clueless about Italian wines (which is a sin in itself), I asked our knowledgeable and gracious server to reccomend a soft red. She brought back an ever so slightly chilled glass of Tosalet, a Grenache Blend. Perfect! Needless to say, I’ll be back and will save room for dessert next time. They have an Olive Oil cake and I’m pretty sure that’s something I need in my life immediately.

We wandered in on a Saturday evening. We were sat immediately, which we didn’t expect. The bread was perfectly toasty. The appetizers were a little disappointing. HOWEVER, the main courses were amazing! I had the truffle duck pasta and my dad got the short rib pappardelle. Both were incredible. So rich in flavor and truly a fun experience. The truffle is very potent, but that’s perfect for me! All in all, it was a pleasant surprise and I can’t wait to be back.

I can’t speak for others, but music was not loud, and food was exceptional. A great addition to the Alpharetta group of Italian restaurants. ALL pasta is freshly made. We started with the octopus which was incredibly tender and well prepared. We both ordered a Primi. I got the pappardella, short rib bolognese, pistachio béchamel, grilled scallions, pickled celery, reggiano and my wife ordered the SPAGHETTI ALLA CHITTARA – bottarga, grated farm egg, fennel, grana padana, breadcrumbs. Both were very well prepared and delicious. Wine selection is quite extensive also. A nice change from the couple old worlds, and then all cabs and merlots. My pet peeve for Altlanta Italian. I can’t say to disregard the few bad reviews, but maybe an off day. Our experience was fantastic. We didn’t it get a secondi since we were meeting friends after and we we full! Next visit for sure.

Wine list – The best OTP
Food – Rustic elegance equals sensory delight!

If you are looking for a place where ambiance, elegance, style, and amazing food accompanied by a wine list loaded with gems for every palate in every price range, you must visit Sorella Vicina!

Walking through their front door for the first time I instantly felt transported to New York City and with the restaurant’s proximity to the Roaring Social, I was sure I would run into Frank Sinatra and the rest of The Rat Pack. My wife and I sat at the bar because we believe that’s where you can best judge the character and soul of an establishment. Our experience was first-class.

Mike, the man behind the bar spent time getting to know us, whipped up a cocktail for my wife and walked me through the wines-by-the-glass list to which I settled on the Brancatelli from Tuscany. We ordered and shared the Buffalo De Mozzarella, Octopus, and Pear and Tarragon Cacio E Pepe. All were fantastic.

The Buffalo De Mozzarella was visually stunning and equally flavorful balancing the cream and salt in the cheese with the acid in the tomatoes and balsamico accented with the fresh pesto. A very well done Piattini!

The octopus was perfectly tender with an amazing congruence of contrasting flavors – Sweet octopus, slightly bitter celery root, and savory white truffle and sherry. All together, this dish sings!

When we order a dish like Cacio E Pepe, we are looking for simple comfort food. Pasta, cheese and pepper is as simple as it gets but somehow the chef found a way to make the pepper really pop without overwhelming the dish. The saying, “you eat with your eyes first” is not lost on this presentation. A wonderful nest of white pasta with specks of pepper and tarragon was as inviting as any dish we have had! SIMPLY perfect.

We enjoyed our meal with a Fattoria deli Barbi Rosso di Montalcino. The Sangiovese grape, in general worked with all the dishes but none better than with the Cacio E Pepe.

Our night at the bar with Mike was fantastic. Although we didn’t run into Sinatra, we did run into Phillip Cooper; aka, Coop. We love his restaurants and especially love it when we get to pick his brain about wine. He is a wealth of knowledge on all things food and wine and he and his wife have the perfect vision for what a night out should feel and taste like.

Do yourself a favor and visit Sorella Vicina!

Interesting experience. I would not qualify the food as authentically Italian but the flavor profiles are somewhat elevated and even adventurous. This is a great thing for any restaurant to have, as it makes your meal memorable.

With that said, tonight, I was craving fresh homemade pasta and did not find it here. As I tried re-assuring the waiter, I totally get it….making fresh pasta every day can’t be justified for most restaurants.

If it had been fresh pasta though, I would be dreaming of the pappardelle tonight.

Putting food aside for a moment, service was perfect. No complaints there.

There is an old song, whose first words are ” Their writing songs of love, but not for me” ..The restaurant was slightly disappointing. Many will consider it good, and it might even get better as it matures. Wait staff was a little off, but not horribly. The kitchen was fast, which saved the food from off tempo meal servings. 3/4 of the way through our appetizer , we realized , they hadn’t taken our main plate order so I asked a passerby to find our waiter. The presentation of the food was very good, and so was the wine selection. However the taste of the mains, as a consensus, by all 4 at the table, was not explosive, or of the level that was going to win this establishment a “we must come back here” . The ambience and wine selection was good, except for the music, which we were told was to give the establishment a more modern feel. The music was a little too loud (everyone kept asking waiter to repeat himself) , and the genre boarded on Rap/Jungle with heavy drum sounds and unrecognizable songs. We got an apology /rationalization for their choice from the owner. Therefor it indicated , he thought it was right for his place. My initial thought is, some will like this place, but for us, it is still a miss as a great Italian Restaurant in Ga. But put it on you “Lets Try It” list. The end was less of a great experience, when the waiter returned with our check , saying I didn’t put my credit card in the leather folder. But after a while they found it somewhere near the payment stand.

Stop everything and go eat here. This place has some of the best pasta I’ve ever had, the best cooked octopus I’ve tried anywhere in GA, and really great service. I have been here twice now and have always been blown away with each meal I’ve had. Great date night, work dinner, girls night spot.

Great place, first time dining there. The food and service were great, and the decor was cool. Would definitely recommend. I had the octopus appetizer, and the braised short rib pappardelle, both very good. My wife had the carpaccio appetizer, and the cacio e peppe, both were also very good.
