I’d give zero stars if that were an option.
We went to tour WV Penitentiary. Had a very nice experience there. Was hoping for a nice lunch, and looking to support a local restaurant. This place is NOT it. We were not greeted, and did not feel welcome at all. I even mentioned it being our first time there and the waitress couldn’t have cared less. No personality whatsoever. I don’t expect entertainment from my wait staff, just some basic manners and decency. The food…it was edible. Very small portions. She never came back to our table to check on us. Nobody did. My husband was interested in ordering another sandwich, but nobody ever came over to us. Save your money and time and find some where else to eat if you’re in that area. Very disappointing.

I wasn’t going to say anything because most of you know this is my favorite place to eat. I always take pictures, leave good reviews, and tell people they should try it out. Not saying any names, but I even gave the lady a $9 tip for New Year’s when my food was $11. I have been going there for 10 years, but today my take-out order got messed up, which is fine because it never usually happens. However, when I got my order fixed and went to pick it up, they told me I was lying and said I ordered wrong on the phone and was being rude; they didn’t even give me a receipt. The younger boy who works there has great customer service skills, and he was being really nice the whole time. He deserves a raise or something. I didn’t even want a refund, just the food I ordered right.

Food was average at best. Service was terrible if I’m being honest. Our waitress brought us our food and we never saw her again despite the place being empty except the 2 guys sitting at the bar eating. I actually wanted to order more food and also needed a drink refill but we never saw our waitress again. Definitely won’t return here.

Honestly, in this small town of West Virginian your choice of dining out is very limited and I am all for supporting local Mom and Pap joint.
Came here on a Wednesday morning like 10ish and this place is packed!! Most people seem to be regular and definitely local. The ambience is very homey and it really feels like eating at your grandma’s Kitchen, but the food is just alright…
I had the small Shock, for $3.5 they gave you food enough for a family of 4. Husband had the small biscuit on the other hand and it’s really small in portion and bland in flavor.
The hostess/waitress is really sweet tho~

This place is a true diamond in the rough! We stopped in Moundsville for a quick stay overnight and after a quick search for breakfast we stumbled onto Grandma Jo’s Polkadot Cafe. We could not praise this place enough. The prices are great and the food itself is extraordinary! I ordered “The Shock” and haven’t been that satisfied with a breakfast in ages. On top of everything else, the service was stupendous.
I can’t recommend this place enough. A welcoming family atmosphere with delicious food at unbeatable prices, what’s not to love?

Not a bad place for a small mom and pop shop, and I think breakfast might be a better meal to enjoy here, but overall the place is just ok. I ordered the Reuben and Fries with a Pepsi (can) and the total came to $5.30, which is absolutely amazing – talk about a sweet deal. Now, the service was 3 folks; a guy on the grill (who seemed a little overwhelmed), a lady doing the hostess and waitress work and some bussing, and some guy that just walked around – kinda odd. The waitress was very nice and did a good job. I did see them cook some things in the microwave, which I am sure lots of restaurants do – but it might be better to put it in the back as I watched them pretty much cook someone’s whole meal using the microwave. Again, my food was pretty good and the price was spot on, but not sure I would recommend.
