Andrew and Haley!
This place is a true hidden gem! I had never even heard of them until today, but I’m so glad I stumbled across it while looking for a good sandwich shop. I’ve been to Katz’s Deli in New York and tried Jewish delis all over, and this little spot absolutely holds its own.

The pastrami sandwich was fantastic—the rye bread was perfect and held up beautifully without falling apart. The meat had a rich, smoky flavor, and the mustard paired with it perfectly. My only small wish is that the pastrami slices were a bit thicker, but that’s just nitpicking because everything else was spot on.

The prices are great too. For a sandwich, drink, and side, you’re looking at around $15, which is an unbeatable deal for this quality. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations, and I’ll definitely be back!

BNY was really good. I had the corned beef and pastrami sandwich combo. The quality of the meat was great. The flavor/seasoning of the pastrami was ok. I ordered the large sandwich which they said was 8oz of deli meat. For the price, which was approximately $20, I would look for a heftier sandwich. The rye bread was fresh and the pickle provided was forgettable but I believe there were other pickle options that I didn’t try. The fresh made chips were interesting and a unique touch. The service was great and the location in that neighborhood was very nice.

The last time I visited was years ago when they were located in Chicago Heights. They’re now in Homewood IL in the downtown area. The street was blocked off so I parked about a half block away and walked to the location. No big deal!

I ordered 2 Bensonhursts and 1 turkey club. The sandwiches were hearty but slightly smaller than what I experienced years ago and it’s the only reason why I didn’t give the 5 ⭐️.

Overall I think I’ll be back & just know that you will pay a premium but I think it’s worth it.

This was my family’s first time getting sandwiches from Bernstein’s Deli in Homewood, and overall it was a decent experience. We all ordered the corned beef sandwiches, and I agree with previous reviews — the meat itself is very good. It’s flavorful, tender, and clearly high quality.

That said, the meat-to-bread ratio wasn’t great. For the price being charged, we expected a bit more corned beef on the sandwich. The bread definitely outweighed the filling, which was disappointing given the cost.

Because of the bread-to-meat ratio and the price point, we’re not sure we would return. The quality is there, but the portion size just didn’t match what we expected for what we paid.

If you’re lucky like the residents of the Homewood-Flossmoor area, you have a neighborhood deli like Bergenstein’s. Located off the small downtown of suburban Homewood, it offers all of the expected sandwiches and comforting soups that sooth the hungry soul. As should be expected, the Cornbeef and Pastrami are perfect and there’s a delicious smoked whitefish salad that’s best enjoyed in their “Smokey Joe” sandwich, a combo of whitefish, lox, cream cheese and tomato on Challah. One of my personal favorites. Of course there’s Matzo Ball soup and delicious homemade chips or potato cakes for sides. I’s a great lunch spot that also offers breakfast sandwiches (the Big Egg!) and various salads that can be served as wraps. Bergenstein’s (BNY) Deli is a solid spot for any day of the week, though note, they’re closed on Sundays. So if you’re in the neighborhood, stop in and enjoy the warm community vibe.

I ordered the corned beef and pastrami sandwich. He asked if I wanted regular or large. I chose the regular. It came with Swiss cheese and my choice of veggies. I asked for onion and lettuce. It came with a pickle and choice of 1 side. I asked for the homemade chips and add a potato salad. They also carried my favorite pop. The bill was $17.50. They pile the meat in the middle of the normal sized rye bread, so when they cut it, it appears to be bountiful. However, at least 1/3 of the break had no meat on it. I wonder if I ordered the large at an additional cost, would the bread be covered with meat then The potato salad was bland and had no texture. I prefer some small chunks of potato and celery and/or onion to provide a little crunch. Their potato salad was pureed. I did not care for it at all. Overall, I was disappointed. A lot of money for basically 1/2 a sandwich, chips, mashed potato salad, and a pop. Never again

The food is delicious however the last couple times I went here they never get my order right. I say on the side for a dressing on a wrap, they put it on still, I ask for light dressing on my wrap and it’s dripping in dressing. I just wish people would listen, I spent the money to have a wrap later this evening thinking it wouldn’t be soggy because I asked for it in the side so it sat for 6 hours, nice wet soggy meal.

My family has been coming to Bergstein’s for over a decade! They always have great specials. They customer service is great and the food was ready very quickly! My grandma said the corned beef was somewhat dry but still delicious. I loved the brisket sandwich!

I ordered to go. The dining area is very spacious and clean. Love the vibe of casual dining. The food was excellent (5 times over)!!! My husband and I enjoyed every bite. I had the reuben and he had the cornbeef and pastrami on white.

Food and service were both excellent! That said, it was freezing in that restaurant!! It is always freezing in this restaurant. It is quite difficult to enjoy your meal when you are so uncomfortable!! Who likes to wear one’s winter coat, hat, and gloves while trying to enjoy a meal that you just spend $20 on?
