Highly recommended
I truly wanted to enjoy Island Kitchen & Grill—especially given how seamless and convenient the ordering process was. I had every intention of becoming a repeat customer. Sadly, what I received fell drastically short of expectations and left me with serious concerns about the kitchen’s standards and overall food quality.
To begin with, I waited over an hour for my order to be prepared, only to receive food that I ultimately couldn’t even eat. The rice was significantly undercooked—far too firm and dry to be palatable. It lacked both flavor and texture, making it difficult to enjoy even as a base.
I had paid an additional $4.00 for a large plate, which was supposed to include a third side item: a festival. Unfortunately, that item was never provided, and no explanation or acknowledgment was given at the time of pickup.
I had specifically requested oxtail gravy to be served over the entire meal, as this was clearly presented as an option during the ordering process. However, what I received was a disappointingly sparse drizzle—so minimal it seemed almost deliberate. It felt as though the kitchen was rationing it with extreme reluctance, which severely diminished the richness and cohesion of the dish.
The steamed cabbage, which should have added a fresh and comforting contrast, was borderline inedible. Its taste was so off-putting that I genuinely questioned whether it had spoiled—it emitted a bitterness and odor that rendered it entirely unappetizing.
As for the fried chicken, it was perhaps the most concerning aspect of the meal. It had a stale flavor, almost as if it had been previously cooked, left to sit, and then hastily re-fried upon ordering. Yet despite this, it still arrived undercooked—a perplexing and frankly alarming oversight. Undercooked poultry is not only unpleasant but a serious health risk.
I generally make it a point to support local establishments, especially those offering culturally inspired cuisine. However, this experience left me not just disappointed but genuinely uneasy. After waiting over an hour, to not even be able to eat the meal was incredibly frustrating. There’s a clear need for improvement in food preparation, quality control, and customer value. Until then, I simply cannot recommend this establishment.
I got the fish fry special! I said see you later vegetarian ways I’m eating deep fried fish from a food truck in Orlando! WOW! The tilapia was incredible! The batter was seasoned perfectly! A nice blend of flavors. It also came with these things called “festivals” it’s like a deep fried dough. Incredible!!
Also, side note, the head chef has a secret spicy sauce. Ask him about it!!!
Definitely worth a stop. Super happy to have made it. Shout out to the wonderful people in the truck making magic happen. They also cater events if you are looking!!
Update: this my second time in two days! Got fried chicken and asked Chef Moma to sauce them up! Man this place really shines! I’m putting on everyone in Orlando on this place!
