Pho John was highly recommended by my family so of course, I had to give it a try on this cold and rainy day. Absolutely fantastic!!! We ordered oxtail and beef pho, crispy tofu rice, and crispy noodles. The portions are generous, piping hot fresh, and the only complaint I have is not having enough room in my tummy to eat all of the delicious food that is served. The highlight of my first visit is the customer service – superb. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with a warm smile and good morning/afternoon, given warm house tea (delicious), and when I shared that this was my first visit, they asked about our preferences, offered options, and truly made us feel welcome. When I saw the karaoke area, I know this restaurant has to be an absolute blast during dinner. Will definitely be returning.

Coming from San Francisco and driving all the way down to San Jose I have to admit I came here to eat at my favorite Pho ga Nha. The wait for a Sunday was a good 30-45 mins. I look to the other side and saw a sign that says 25% off so I said….hmmm let me check the place out. I find out Pho John is primarily new. They have a good list of options but if the name outside says Pho…then I had to have pho. The owner was out on the floor going table to table and he was quite nice explaining that they don’t use MSG and only have high quality beef. All his explanation made sense as it did taste like there’s no MSG and the beef was nice and tender. I was also able to chit-chat with the next table and their only concern was to speed up the process just a tad bit. And they were not wrong but I didn’t mind because 15 min wait wasn’t too bad for the food to come out. My verdict? It’s a good alternative when my favorite spot is way busy. I would come back here again for sure.

I believe the restaurant can also turn into an event place thus the stage and karaoke?? I like their bathroom….it’s pretty clean.

It’s hands down the best pho in the Bay Area, especially in San Jose. My husband and son are big pho lovers, and we’ve tried countless places throughout the Bay, particularly in San Jose. Today was our first time trying the Special Combo Pho (#3) and Bún Chả Hà Nội, and both dishes were beyond words.
The pho broth was rich, savory, and absolutely delicious—without MSG! I also loved that they included ngò gai, which is one of my favorite herbs when eating pho. The toppings were fresh and generous.
As for the Bún Chả Hà Nội, the fish sauce had such a unique flavor. I’m usually not a fan of bún chả, but I genuinely enjoyed it today. Beyond these two, the menu offers many other options, and we can’t wait to come back and try them all.
The service was excellent. From the warm greeting at the door to the attentive staff throughout, everything felt welcoming. We even met the owners today—they were very friendly and kind.
If you’re a fan of pho or Bún Chả Hà Nội, this spot is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

Very friendly workers. They’re very accommodating and nice! I’ve been twice and the waitress already recognizes me! John (the chef himself) is frequently walking around talking to the customers seeing how everything is. We had the pleasure of talking to him and hearing about his journey he went through to opening the restaurant and how much love and effort he puts into the food.

Phở was very good. Soup wasn’t too salty and was very balanced. What stood out almost immediately was the quality of the meat. It was cooked perfectly and was very tender compared to other restaurants where the meat almost feels a little rubbery/tough from being overcooked.
The Bún Chả Hà Nội is something that’s more unique and isn’t typically served at Vietnamese restaurants. The meat was juicy and full of flavor. It comes with fresh herbs/veggies and vermicelli noodles. It was very delicious and filling.
Food overall was really good despite being in the pricer side (although it was offset by their 25% off deal ending 9/30). You can taste the quality compared to other Vietnamese restaurants.

The beef here is quite good — tender, flavorful, and with a nice variety of cuts to choose from. That part definitely stood out.
However, the portion size is on the smaller side compared to other pho places I’ve been to, and the price is relatively high for what you get.

they were able to accomodate while the whole block had a power outage. we ordered the P1 and the P4. the meatballs were flavorful and the oxtail was sooo tender. this will be my go to pho place whenever im in the area.

Finally got a chance to try the new pho spot in San Jose today. It definitely lived up to the hype! I ordered #1 (pho suon bo dac biet). The broth was well balanced and aromatic. The beef was premium quality. Pho came with lots of scallions and each table had a jar of pickled garlics, just the way I like it as a Northern style pho (pho Bac) lover. Someone had said that the portion was smaller and I can see why. However, I think the portions in the restaurants in the US are way too big, so I actually liked the slightly smaller portion here. The staff was courteous and the restrooms were clean. This is probably my new favorite pho spot in SJ now. Will definitely come back!
