Wonderful little place right on the Mississippi in Lansing, Iowa with a great view of the old bridge. Decor was as you would expect for a restaurant on the river. Staff were friendly, nice selection on the menu and the food was amazing. If you go, try the tater tot nachos! Unbeatable.

I’ve never experienced such terrible service. Table of 6, orders came out 1 or 2 at a time with overall wait time of over 2 hours and that was with no one else in restaurant. My single order came out last when others at table were done eating. I had ordered chicken strip basket & what the cook finally brought out (our waitress totally just disappeared) was just 3 chicken strips; nothing else. Not even the dipping sauce I ordered. If I could give this place a negative star, I would.

This is a perfect place to stop for lunch or dinner. The service was great, and the food was amazing. I ordered the special cod, and it was made perfect. It came with a baked potato and cottage cheese. My kids ordered the chicken strips and the chicken sandwich it was all tasty. Thank you so much for having fast/friendly service and delicious food!

Service was fantastic. Food was alright, priced fairly. Drinks were poured heavy so I have no complaints there! Fantastic views of the Mississippi River. Great little restaurant for a quick bite to eat and a quick drink.

We have been coming here for years. It’s a great stop by boat for drinks and food. We usually stay in lansing as well so easy to walk to as well. There’s a great outdoor seating area/ bar downstairs that is a great area to watch river life. Great place to stop.

Great bar and restaurant on the Lansing side of the river. Owner was bartending the day we were there and he was working hard at getting everyone served. Great views of the river and the bridge!

Great little hole in the wall with super friendly service. Cold beer and great food! Highly recommend the fried cod and French dip. The fries are delicious.

I have been coming to Shep’s for many years and have never been left with anything but great service and food. I do not live super close by, but I absolutely go out of my way to head to this establishment when I can. I have gotten the chance to get to know many of the individuals at this place, and I appreciate all of the service and memories from here. The owner is a great individual who is awesome to talk to and fun to be around. Also, I love Dawn’s cooking and the awesome service she brings each time I’m here. If you are looking for a wonderful day, please take the time to check this establishment out. Upstairs is always a great time and the patio is so fun during the summer. Thank you to Shep’s Riverside for the great hospitality, great food, and great memories that I continue to have with each and every visit.

We took a 2+ hour scenic drive up the Great River Road (Iowa side) to get there. We were told to definitely go for the cheese curds but, the chicken wasn’t good. So, we did the Pork T, Cod basket with onion rings / cheese curds for sides. The Cod basket said cole slaw on the menu, they gave us cottage cheese (not very good) and said cole slaw was not an option. Gave us fries with the Cod basket instead of onion rings (and the fries were soggy). The breading on the Pork T was cooked nicely on the outside, doughy on the inside. Asked for no onions on the Pork T – as you can see in the picture, it came with onions. The mayo requested didn’t come with the meal. Had to ask them for it again. The breading on the onion rings was not cooked all the way through, either. It would flake and fall off when you picked up a ring. Finally, the wait staff was slow (we were 1 of 2 tables inside when we arrived), didn’t provide us with silverware (we had to get our own from another table), napkins, straws for our drinks (Mt Dew and unsweetened tea – you have to put in your own sweetener), and did not know the menu (which was located on a board placed near the wait station). While the views outside are very nice, the service & food were poor enough we would not return. There are better choices along the river.
