We stayed at the Hotel Crescent Court for a meeting. Lots of high end and high priced restaurants all within walking distance. My wife found a local eatery that I consider a diamond in the rough among the many restaurant around. For excellent Prime Beef Brisket at an unpretentious location that offers great BBQ, service and value. Thank you Tanner for offering the beef brisket sample. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. The two choices of meat selections and two sides plate will serve a grown man and you may still have leftovers. Nowadays it’s becoming harder to find great food, value and service. Sammy’s BBQ did not disappoint.

This is a old-school BBQ joint on Leonard Street in downtown. They have a fair sized indoor seating and some outside tables as well. You can do take-away as well. Opening hours are 11am to 3pm (lunch only), closed on Sundays.
Had a very good lunch here recently. The chopped beef sandwich was delicious, sides of okra, potato casserole and beans were great. Ended up taking home a large order of brisket, sausage and more sides for a larger group of friends for the evening. Everyone loved the meal. Two Sammy’s meals in one day and was left wanting more. Would gladly return based on this experience.

This is one of my favorite BBQ spots in Dallas. I got a brisket sandwich, had some burnt ends mixed in, delicious! Tender and juicy, full of flavor.

Stopped by here for lunch and couldn’t have made a better decision. They were getting ready to close and it was the middle of the week so I had the entire restaurant to myself. None the less the food was hot and fresh and I was met with welcoming and helpful staff.
The food was good. *Everything needed a little salt but all in all I had a very delicious 3 meat plate. The brisket was fall a part tender and juicy. I added the house BBQ sauce for extra flavor but overall was really good. I had the zucchini casserole which was really good and mac n which was good as well. My only complaint would be the turkey. It was a complete letdown during my visit but the everything else was good good. I would definitely come back to try other sides dishes and for more of their brisket.

If you’re looking for great brisket and quick, cafeteria-style service, this is the spot. The brisket was perfectly rendered and hit all the right notes. The ribs were a bit of a letdown due to the membrane being left on, and the ‘spicy’ sausage lacked heat, but the flavor was still solid. I will definitely be back for the fatty brisket.

Their food is DELICIOUS! Their sides are so good. The zucchini casserole and potato casserole were so good. I usually don’t like american bbq but this stuff is delicious. Fall apart brisket and very tasty hot links

Don’t miss Sammy’s if you’re in Dallas. A proper BBQ outfit in the middle of towers was quite unexpected. The food was fantastic—both meats and sides. The prices were inexpensive by comparison to any good BBQ restaurant, much less one in the middle of the city. More importantly, the service; I arrived 10 minutes before closing (they still had all meats available and only mac and cheese was finished for sides) and they insisted I stay to eat. I didn’t eat quickly as I understood another couple behind me was also finishing up, however when I stood to depart it was readily apparent they were not customers and it was only me keeping employees from going home. Yet not once was I hurried. And when I apologized they were as gracious as ever. Overall, a fantastic experience I’m sure they’ll replicate for you if you choose to visit—and I highly recommend you do.
Update:
Visited again after 8 months, at opening on a Saturday. The service was exemplary once again—6 stars! The sides and atmosphere were fantastic again. However, the brisket was closer to chopped than sliced and overall dry. As it was a Saturday in a business district (components for being open at all!) it was possibly not the weeks’ best meat. Overall review will stay a 5, suggest being choosy on the day you visit.
