Admirals D Waterfront Tavern offers a great vibe and atmosphere, especially with the beautiful waterfront view. The energy of the place is just right, making it a perfect spot to relax during sundown or have a chat with friends. The waiters were very attentive, which added to the positive experience. However, the food menu was quite limited and nothing really caught my eye, although I did notice a lot of people ordering the hamburger. The drinks were good, but quite pricey at $40 for two cocktails. Overall, it’s a cool place to hang out, but be prepared for the high prices.

Edit: We’ve been back a number of times over the years and thought I’d add more content. There’s a nice short walking/biking path leading up to D’s. There’s a really good vibe on a sunny, warm day here and all the way op the strip. The wind can sometimes get a little crazy, but that’s not always the case. This is definitely a good spot for a simple meal and a drink overlooking White Bear Lake.

We went to Admiral Ds one evening for drinks and an appetizer before dinner. The patio was maybe 3/4 full and summer was winding down. It took about 15 min to place an order for a drink, and then about 45 minutes to get our canned drinks. Unfortunately, we were not able to order any appetizers because it took so long to get any service.

Great atmosphere and servers were good. I love sitting by the lake. They got my dog some water which was so great! The problem was I ordered a turkey club. What I got was a BLT with 2 thin slices of turkey and it was dry and blah. Do you see turkey? It’s on the left. “Remember the commercial “where’s the beef?” Look at the last turkey sandwich picture. That’s how it should look!! I found the beef! Or actually turkey but at a different restaurant.

10-4-25, we seated in the patio seem to be about eight tables busy four or five staff members first water came 20 minutes after sitting down for a string came 25 minutes later. 25 minutes later was asked if you wanted a second drink, never received it until we asked. Service was so disorganized with all the guests were talking about it only frustrated. He ran into a couple of friends that actually left their table because we were sitting there for 30 minutes. We won’t be back!

Pretty disappointed. My wife and I went there for dinner on the water. Our server put in our drink order, and we told her we needed a couple minutes to think on some food. Another person dropped off our drinks. We weren’t offered water and there was only one napkin at the table. We sat for at least 30 minutes until we were able to flag our server down to place our order. There seemed to be only 2, maybe three people serving the whole patio, but if wasn’t full. Looking around, it was clear others were waiting a bit as well. One man had to walk up to the kitchen to get somebody to pay his bill. I overheard the manager apologizing to others, stating that many of his staff are leaving for college. I can understand that, but nobody was filling in the gaps, something that could have been fixed with some planning. Our food was good, when it did arrive. I ordered another drink at that time. It never came. There were periods of 5+ minutes where nobody was rounding on any tables on the patio, making it difficult to flag anyone down. We waited a bit for our server, and when she came to pay the bill, she seemed surprised that I didn’t get the drink. My wife went to the bathroom on the way out, and she said the toilet seemed clogged and was almost full to the top. The only saving grace tonight was the beautiful views on a nice night, and the musician. I worked as a server for years, and this is the first time I’ve left a negative review.

The food was good, not great, but good. Burger was typical, and somewhat under seasoned. Fries were crispy and hot, so that made up for it. Onion rings were also bland, and would have benefited from some additional type of dipping sauce. Salad was just ok. However, overall good experience on the patio. Great views of the lake, and was pleasant to hang out. Server was attentive and friendly. Also enjoyed the live music that was going on. Keep in mind that you are paying a premium for the atmosphere.

Wonderful place to sit outside near the water when it’s warm out. This place is good to just grab drinks, appetizers, or a full meal. Animals are welcome and they even bring a water bowl out for your dog.
