Clearly a place for the locals as both its location and that everyone in there knew the waitstaff!

The menu is quite extensive with standard American diner fare. Our eye was drawn to the Greek specialties area and we ordered the lamb gyro and chicken souvlaki meals. Neither of us felt like french fries so we swapped them for rice pilaf and a dinner salad.

The salad came first and had Lettuce, shredded carrots, two cucumber slices, and very thickly cut red onion. Pretty standard and unexciting, but reasonably fresh.

Both the souvlaki and gyro came wrapped in a pita. The chicken was grilled and the pita had Lettuce shreds, tomatoes and tzatziki on it which made for a decent albeit plain wrap. The gyro was made from the frozen strips that were warmed up on the flattop, and in this case charred and overcooked.

The rice was clumpy and dry. Both plates came with a pickle spear and a small tub of very sweet Coleslaw. Why? No idea.

Server was exactly what you find in a diner and did her job well.

I suppose we would have done better ordering other items. Oh well…

Food and service were great. Didn’t have to wait to be seated, super friendly staff, and our food came to us before we knew it. Well definately be going back.

The Red Oak has the best counter dining experience in the area. Comfy chairs and a wide counter provide a great space for eating and conversation. It also gives you a tantalizing view of the homemade pies baked fresh each week by the owner Pete. As for the menu, I usually opt for breakfast and a lunch wrap combination (plus soup). Their buffalo chicken wrap with grilled chicken is a fan favorite. Wash it down with a cold Coca Cola, and rumor has it, we may see Cold Brew make its debut on the menu!

This was my first time trying Red Oak, we came for breakfast. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and a coffee. The coffee was badic, nothing wrong but nothing to write home about. The eggs Benedict were disappointing, my mother makes better than this. The eggs were flat (how they flatten an egg when you poach it, it generally keeps its bubbly little dome shape of the yolk is beyond me. The hollandaise sauce is definitely from a mix, which is ok, we use it at home too but you expect a little extra something when you order it out. A little extra seasoning, some more imagination, nope. It was unimpressive. The home fries were worse, it tasted like raw potato, absolutely no seasoning at all. Real home fries, first of all should be fried in grease (like bacon grease on a griddle – since this is a diner) or butter. There were no onions and they were white in color save for a few, I guess accidentally, crispy pieces, which were the only good pieces. Their lunch items look good based on photos, maybe give that a try, not the eggs Benny. They take card and cash despite having no mention of cards accepted not stickers on the door, they’re using square or clover tap to pay at their register.

BF & I decided to try someplace new to us, I’ve lived in binghamton & near by it for 30 years but never tryed till tonight. we ordered a large veriety of things, intent to take the extras home. Firstly EVERYTHING tasted better then anything I’ve had at any restutant in broom or chenango county and not by a small margin! The prices were very low suprisingly, the most expensive was 20$, food arrived very fast, and there was a LOT of it per plate! we tipped the waitress, but upon my request I was let in the back to thank and tip the cheffs too. <3 I will be a regular now! What a great experiance! I hope they keep the recipies the same, and give thiet cheffs a raise! ++ its a local business, not some chain, they care about their ingredients more then proffit margins and that will kep me coming back! Next visit ill add images &/or videos.

Food was very good. The French Onion Soup hit the spot on a cold day. The staff were all pleasant and it was a family like atmosphere to me.

We stopped by Red Oak off I-81 in New York to try something local and support a small business. While the interior and atmosphere might feel outdated yet somewhat interesting, the food quality was disappointing. It lacked presentation, was difficult to eat, and tasted far from fresh. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Next time, I will choose a more reliable option like McDonald’s – itis safer both for your stomach and peace of mind.

We went to The Little Oak for the first time today. We have been patrons of another diner for a long time but decided to try something different today. I think we have a new favorite! The ambience, cleanliness, friendliness of staff, and of course the food, are all excellent. We each had the Pancho’s style roast beef special, which was warm, tender, moist roast beef, lettuce, tomato and mayo on a hard roll. Delicious. So were the soup and hand cut fries. Looking forward to trying other menu items. Will definitely be back, sooner rather than later!

There were 10 of us. Generous portions at a very fair price. Favorites were chicken and biscuits, liver with onions/bacon, Virginia ham slices with fruit sauce, haddock, I personally had sliced London broil with mushroom sauce that was cooked rarish and tasted Devine. Baked potato and fresh salad. Lentil soup was perfect. I real mashed taters.
Husband and another gentleman for the lamb and both didn’t feel it was tasting like lamb so much. Onion soup was mediocre as was the coconut cream pie. Too much whipped cream but it sure was pretty.
Didn’t know about the free strawberry shortcake so shortchanged on that
Very nice, efficient waitress. We’ll definitely go back to try more dishes. 80% was perfect. We felt bad about the construction cramping their business so wanted to help boost them up. Hope we weren’t too loud.
