My favorite steakhouse in Bethesda/Chevy Chase area. Been here many times throughout the years and it never disappoints. My favorite appetizers are the clam chowder, lobster crab cakes and the Cold shellfish platter. For the Cold shellfish platter, they serve you shrimp cocktail, oysters, lobster claws and lobster tails. For steaks, my go to is the Kona crusted NY Strip and the Porcini-Rubbed Bone-In Ribeye. They are so good. Order them medium-rare. It’s so tender and flavorful. You honestly can’t go wrong with any of their steaks. For sides, the creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and Au Gratin Potatoes are my favorites. For dessert, the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake is the one to get.

They do have a kid’s menu and for larger parties they do require a private dining room. I think they can sit parties up to six in the main dining room. They validate up to three hours in the parking garage, so parking is free. Service has always been top-notch.

This restaurant is located on the border of Maryland and Washington, DC, at the intersection of Wisconsin and Western Avenue.

I’ve been to The Capital Grille in Scottsdale, and the menu and flavors here are very similar. However, the decor at this location really stands out—it has a sense of history and a museum-like feel, almost like a collection of national treasures. I especially loved the bronze statues throughout the space.

I ordered the oysters for lunch, and they were an excellent choice—fresh, briny, and very refreshing.

Service was okay, but it didn’t quite meet the high standard expected of this restaurant.

Had an excellent lunch at The Capital Grille. They had amazing food and truly fantastic service. The lamb chops were the standout, and the Lobster Mac ’N’ Cheese was rich, creamy, and absolutely worth ordering again. It is definitely my most favorite mac and cheese I ever had and would certainly recommend you all to taste it.

My only minor downside was parking: even after using the garage, it’s a bit of a walk (not fun in the cold) to get to the restaurant. Other than that, everything was on point and definitely deserved 5 stars.

I will be back!

Great restaurant. Really good food. Drinks are very good as well. I enjoyed the steaks as well as the sides for the table. I do recommend that you get a reservation because even with a reservation we still had a little bit of a wait. We did go on a Saturday night so it was very busy but I would go again. Very good food. Very good service and very good atmosphere

Perfect vodka martini execution – bone dry, properly shaken, crystal clear. The mahogany-paneled power dining room delivers exactly what D.C. expects: flawless dry-aged NY strip with ideal char-to-pink ratio, butter-poached lobster tail, and Swiss-watch service efficiency. No surprises, just unwavering excellence. This isn’t dining theater – it’s American steakhouse tradition executed to perfection. Essential power dining where food never upstages conversation but never disappoints.

I’ve been a regular customer here for a long time and I come by very often. The service is always amazing—even when I just order takeout, they are so friendly and polite. The food is delicious, but the absolute best thing on the menu has to be their cheesecake! Highly recommend to anyone visiting.

Aug 2024:

I tried a wide range of side dishes, and overall, the meals were splendid. The mashed potatoes were creamy with minimal potato skin, which added a nice texture. However, one of the steaks was slightly undercooked compared to what was requested. The lobster mac and cheese had great flavor, though the lobster was overcooked, making it a bit too chewy. The truffle fries were simple yet perfectly seasoned. I didn’t hear any bad critiques about the salmon. The beet salad was phenomenal, with creamy goat cheese and a delightful addition of pistachios. The only small critique is that the beets were a bit too large—it would have been better if they were cut smaller to balance every bite.

The overall experience was excellent, largely thanks to Ian, our server, who has over 5 years of experience, and it truly shows in his attentive and knowledgeable service.

I normally don’t leave bad reviews, but this experience was so awful, I feel I have to warn others. The food was absolutely terrible and ridiculously overpriced for no reason. I ordered a steak, and it came out completely cold—tough, flavorless, and disgusting. I couldn’t even finish it. To make matters worse, the waiter was incredibly unprofessional. At one point, he was holding a knife near us in an aggressive and careless manner, almost pointing it at us! It was really unsettling and could’ve been dangerous. This place is a total rip-off, and I would never recommend it to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This is the first review I think I have ever written. I want to thank Shaun, Daniel, and the rest of the staff for going above and beyond to make my birthday special. When we arrived I noticed that the outside of the restaurant from the street side was still fairly icy and I was bringing my 91 and 92 year old parents to the restaurant. I called, and Shaun met me in the parking garage. When I mentioned my concern for my elderly parents walking in the cold across the courtyard to get to the restaurant, he said “no problem”. He instructed me to go to the next level down and he personally escorted us through a private entrance that led us straight into the restaurant. I have never had anyone go so far out of their way to make the evening exceptional for everyone. Capital Grille has always been one of my favorite restaurants. Now I can say that not only is the food fantastic, but the staff is extraordinary!!! Thank you again!!!
