Our server Emily was warm, attentive, and efficient, and we truly appreciated her service throughout the meal.
Unfortunately, the experience declined from there. Shortly after we were seated in what was presented as a more private area, a loud party with children was seated directly behind us, despite there only being about two other tables occupied at the time. The atmosphere shifted immediately from intimate to distracting, and my husband and I struggled to hear each other speak for the rest of dinner. We completely understand families dining out, but being told we were seated somewhere for privacy and then having that taken away was especially disappointing on an anniversary night.
The food was also inconsistent. The filet frittes had potential and the fries were great, but only two of the three pieces of steak were enjoyable. The third was chewy and underdone. The steak was heavily covered in gravy, which overpowered the flavor rather than enhancing it. My husband’s Chicken Chesapeake tasted fine but was surprisingly small for the price.
While the hostess did acknowledge our anniversary upon arrival, there was no further recognition during the meal. Even a small gesture would have gone a long way given the circumstances.
We left feeling genuinely disappointed and honestly surprised, considering the restaurant’s reputation and the price point. Emily and the hostess were kind and professional, but the overall experience did not match expectations for what was meant to be a special celebration. It was unfortunately a letdown.
We may consider trying again in the future in hopes this was just an off night, but this visit did not reflect the experience we anticipated.
By now, I’ve tried almost everything on the menu (including a few dishes they sadly no longer offer), and I can honestly say the food here never disappoints. My all-time favorites are the lobster tail and Freddie’s Seafood Pasta — both are consistently fresh, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. They used to have a crème brûlée that was one of the best I’ve ever had — I still miss it!
Another thing I love is how accommodating the bar team is. They are always willing to customize drinks, which adds such a personal touch to the experience. Whether it’s brunch cocktails, a glass of wine, or something creative and off-menu, they make sure you get exactly what you want, or at least, that has been my experience.
The quality of the food is consistently excellent — fresh seafood, vibrant flavors, and generous portions. The staff is friendly, attentive, and professional, making you feel welcome whether you’re with a big group or just dropping in for a casual meal.
Marlin Moon is the kind of place that works for any occasion. I’ve been here for girls’ trips, family vacations, and casual nights out — and every single time, it’s been a hit with everyone.
Between the food, the vibe, the service, and the views, Marlin Moon delivers a perfect Ocean City experience. If you’re in town, this is a place you have to try at least once — but trust me, you’ll be coming back.
Ordered the crab cake with risotto and it was probably the worst risotto I’ve ever eaten. Risotto should be creamy, it should run on the plate if tilted. This had the consistency of playdough.
A thick, pasty, lukewarm heap of reheated cheesy rice with some room temperature peppers dropped on it, and a crabcake that was still cold in the middle from when they reheated it. ….Yum.
2 stars because at least the wine wasn’t corked and the server seemed like a nice kid.
First of all, the hostess was so kind. She checked three tables to get me the best ocean view.
I had an orange crush to drink, the crab dip, and the lobster orzo. Everything was delicious and my service was perfect!
The crab dip was honestly the best I have ever had and the orzo was absolutely covered in lobster that was well-cooked and flavorful.
I will be coming back the next time I am in Ocean City and will be recommending it to everyone!
We were not greeted walking in. She looked like we were an inconvenience and we infact, then, felt like an inconvenience.
My wife and I were given this tiny little table Sunday morning for breakfast. The Hostess gave us two menus, one of which had wine stains all over the front and the other didn’t even have a menu! We were not given any silverware either…. I asked where the restrooms were and lo and behold, they don’t have any (you need to use the double tree facilities. Go back out, down to the first floor, two lefts and it will be hidden behind the pool area)
This “fine dinning” experience is starting to run its “coarse”
Our server was the only redeeming factor at this point. Bright smiles, helpful energy, this young man just saved us from leaving the restaurant.
We noticed 2 lovely couples (party of four) come in and were seated in front of us. Sure enough the Hostess strikes again… she had only given them two menus and this nice young lady had to get up, go back up front and get two additional menus. They did not look pleased.
The Marlin Moon, at this point was starting to feel a little clammy.
The food was good but like I previously stated, we had to ask for silverware and did not get a refill on the waters. We thought our server went on break but he was just probably busy. He did cater to my wife’s gluten allergy.
All in all, not going to come back here… there are too many other restaurants that deserve a change to set a decent first impression.
