Nestled in the heart of Uvalde, Texas, The Local Fix stands as a beacon of community spirit and resilience. Its story is as rich and varied as the town itself. The Local Fix began its journey in 2015, born out of a simple yet profound idea: to create a space where locals could gather, connect, and rejuvenate. The founders, Kim and Mark Huffstutler, were deeply rooted in Uvalde’s history. Mark, a longtime resident, and Kim, who moved to the town for its welcoming charm, shared a vision of transforming a historic building on the Amber Sky property into a vibrant gathering spot. The building, a charming but neglected structure dating back to the early 1940s, had seen many lives—once a bustling general store, then a quiet antique shop. Emma

The server who greeted us was Jocelyn & she was amazing! She was super friendly & on top of everything!! Thank you to Tom, Jocelyn & the other staff who showed up and made sure our event still happened!
The music was too loud. Like straight up, I know that it’s right off of 90, but I’d rather listen to semi-distant traffic with a wall buffer than listen to Justin Beiber’s ‘Baby’ or a song repeat “Smack That”. Ultimately, not the worst. It actually sparked a new inside joke.
When asking if dairy can be removed from a burger, we were told that “some things just can’t be adjusted” which is understandable for a busy restaurant. There was only one other patron at this moment. And, perhaps, just make cheese on burgers optional. Ultimately, our waitress did ask the chef and got cheese removed.
When asking her to just hold the dairy from the fajitas, she got confused. I just don’t want them to waste dairy we won’t use. I didn’t get any sides with my fajitas. Just meat, rice, beans and tortilla. Theres also no lettuce for the fajitas according to the menu. I wouldn’t have gotten lettuce regardless. My favorite part of the fajitas were taking them home and fixing them up with eggs and rice the following morning.
The shrimp tortilla soup had about 3 tiny pieces of shrimp, and didn’t come with tortilla strips. The shrimp is understandable, luck of the dip of the spoon. But we expected more from a restaurant that has the chef’s name on the door. My mom actually switched out to eat the burger because the shrimp tortilla soup was so disappointing
Also everything tasted overwhelmingly like cumin. The fajita meat (which wasn’t like any other fajita meat I’ve seen, so don’t expect something similar to traditional fajita meat), the salsa tasted of mostly cumin, the shrimp tortilla soup tasted of mostly cumin. Really, the biggest seasoning of the restaurant is cumin. Couldn’t taste a whole lot more. Did eat the salsa because it was there, but it wasn’t good.
On a minor note, we asked for charro beans and onion rings, but got refried beans and french fries. Comparable and no price difference, but not exact
We still aren’t sure if The Local Fix carries Coke products or not. We asked and the waitress listed off some other soda brands, but then when we asked what drinks they had, she listed out Coke products as well as other sodas. We just went with tea, not wanting to get Pepsi or some other cola. We were not given a drink menu
Also the menu posted on their website is not accurate.
So to wrap things up with a nice bow, too much cumin, food was underwhelming, overhyped, and expensive. Wouldn’t recommend. Which is disappointing, because TLF used to be good years and years ago
The pork chop I had the night before however was very good and reasonably priced. I would recommend this place for dinner.
Another 15 minutes went by and finally our waitress comes to get our drink order. She took it and based off the long wait we experienced for that we asked if we could put our food order in as well. She told us no and she would be back. We waited another 20 minutes to get our drinks (still haven’t received the water i asked for yet) and she came back to our table with drinks we ordered. Asked if we were ready to order. We said yes and ordered our food. About 5 minutes later our waitress came back to the table and asked us to verify our order, which we did. The food came out about 30 minutes after ordering and mine was incorrect. I tried to stop the waitress and let her know but she was quick to turn around and walk away. After waiting another 15 minutes for her to return, I finally took my sandwich up to the bartender and told her it was not what I ordered. She then proceeded to asked me why I didn’t tell my waitress that it was incorrect and I told her because she had not been back to check on us. I then received a very impolite “I’ll fix it for you”.
Overall impression….don’t waste your time here. Tomato bisque was disgusting. I could have spread it on a pizza and made it a marinara sauce. Sandwich was soggy. No one cared. Service was well beyond sub par. Overpriced for quality you get. I guess you pay extra for the attitude of your server. Will never dine here again.
I ordered their breakfast toast and an iced chai latte and both were fantastic. I loved the elevated atmosphere and the variety of options for breakfast.
