I kept seeing the TikToks telling me to come try this place, so naturally I did what any curious diner would do—I gave in to the algorithm.

First things first: the restaurant is easy enough to find, but it’s self-parking, so may the odds be ever in your favor.

My order was to-go: two fish sandwiches, two sides, cornbread, and sweet tea.

Let’s start with the highlights. The service was great—friendly and efficient, which always sets a good tone. The fish itself was also very good. It’s served on a brioche roll and definitely shines when it’s fresh and hot, so if you order it, eat it immediately. This is not a “let it sit in the car while you run errands” kind of sandwich.

The cornbread was a win: sweet, moist, and genuinely delicious. It paired nicely with the baked beans.

Speaking of the baked beans—they were decent. Well-seasoned enough to be enjoyable, but not particularly memorable.

Now… we need to talk about the mac and cheese. Oh no. No, no, no. The cheese was basically undetectable, and the texture leaned more toward a milk-custard situation than a cheesy pasta dish. There was also zero seasoning to speak of. I’ll admit: good mac and cheese seems to be surprisingly hard to come by in Richmond. My humble suggestion? Lean into a classic shells-and-cheese or noodles-and-cheese approach. Those are far more forgiving and could save a lot of heartache.

The green beans were… fine. Edible, but not particularly flavorful.

And then there was the sweet tea—which frankly offended my Southern roots. It tasted concentrated, with a strange citric bite, almost like it came from a mix. Yes, it was sweet (the one Southern trait it had going for it), but the flavor leaned more toward caramel coloring and citric acid than freshly brewed tea. Sweet tea is one of the easiest things to make in big batches, so I’d love to see a fresh-brewed version here.

I genuinely enjoy trying local restaurants, and I want them to succeed. But the reality is that diners need a reason to choose a local spot over fast-casual chains. A few tweaks to the sides and drinks could make a big difference.

One last note: there is a 20% gratuity added. Personally, I have no issue with that—restaurant staff deserve fair wages—but it’s good to know going in so there are no surprises.

Would I come back? For the fish sandwich and cornbread—yes. For the mac and cheese… absolutely not.

I really liked Pig and Brew. I definitely recommend it. The BBQ ribs and smoked wings were the best. So is their BBQ sauce and cornbread. We loved the collard greens and Cole slaw too. Everything felt homemade and delicious. Portions were generous. They only have one dessert option. But it was absolutely scrumptious. The peach cobbler is a must anytime you come. The service was nice and accommodating. Will definitely go back.
Cons
There were some cons as to why I didn’t give it 5 stars. The Mac and cheese was not to my liking. I don’t like the grainy texture in Mac and cheese made with egg. The flavor in it was not strong or cheesy enough. And the Brisket, though tender, needed more flavor to me. You couldn’t enjoy it without sauce. Also the water glasses were not that clean when we visited. You will have to parallel park too so some people don’t like that. But it’s downtown so it’s to be expected.

Fast service

I had an awesome meal at *Pig and Brew*!

The *brisket* was full of flavor and cooked perfectly, and the *chicken wings* were crispy and delicious.

The *pulled pork* was tender and flavorful, and the *cole slaw* and *cheese fries* were the perfect sides to round out the meal.

Everything was absolutely delicious, and the service was fast and friendly.

Highly recommend this place for anyone craving great BBQ!

A very disappointing outing at that restaurant. Although it possesses great ambiance; the ribs that I had lacked alot of seasoning and flavor. The pork’n beans and collar greens tasted adequately bland. Seems like it came out of can. Again, very little seasoning and flavor. Sadly, the server’s customer service skills saved the day. Otherwise, the overall would have been 1 Star. I would have to revisit that restaurant before considering it a bust.

Pig & Brew was amazing! The BBQ chicken sliders and beef brisket were tender and full of flavor. The collards, green beans, and potato salad were delicious. The Long Island and peach margarita were perfect. Service was great, and we ended up staying for hours chatting with the bartender and the owner’s family. The grewn sides wereca little salty and the drunks were a little sweet (for me), but still tasty. The margarita is on happy hour, vut beware, there’s an extea few for a flavor and there’s a ln automatic 20% gratuity. Great food, drinks, and vibes Can’t wait to go back!

Happy hour is limited but fabulous. Self sitting and quick ordering. Drinks are good and fries are excellent. Sandwich sucks and kids meal only includes one slide. Should at least be 2 for the price. Free refills on kids drinks and parking a block down. Chicken sandwich was not good at all.

I visited this establishment this past Saturday. Very surprised the place was pretty much empty. Now I know why. The service was subpar. And the food tasted like it had been sitting in its respective pot or pan ALL week. Reheated each day for service. Nothing tasted fresh. The worst part was I went especially for some brisket and it was the saltiest, with a mealy pot roast after taste. Completely overpriced and I definitely should have disputed paying my bill. But this review will due. Since my visit I have spoken to many who do not recommend and have similar experiences.

We opted to doordash, but it did not disappoint. The Fried wings were cooked perfectly fried hard & not too salty at all which I prefer. The mac & cheese was pretty decent, also cooked decent with just enough cheese. Collards will need some extra vinegar but they were average. Best items in the meal were the baked beans w/ just a hit of sweetness and a slight undertone of spicy & those fried wings. For a bbq spot i’m glad they do not coat everything in a ton of salt..but you can also add more if that’s what you prefer.
