A bartender was with us quickly and gave us menus. We ordered a couple drinks and decided to share mussels and brussel sprouts and to split the pesto ravioli. The shared appetizers were good – especially the brussel sprouts. Luckily the kitchen split the ravioli up for us so we didn’t have to do that on the bar. That pesto sauce was so good I wished I had saved some of the toast from the mussels to get every little last bit of it out of the bowl. It was very good. We were in a weekend trip and this was the best meal we had all weekend.
The bartenders were personable and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed but also bustling with music and people talking. It wasn’t so loud that we couldn’t hear each other and the music wasn’t so loud that I wanted to chew to the beat.
Prices were comparable to other places we have gone – nothing crazy.
We walked from the hotel so I can’t really speak on parking but I will say traffic was bad that night. If we were driving we probably would have tried to find a garage.
This was an excellent meal.
When I decide to leave reviews for a place, it’s because I loved it and believe it’s worth visiting, but I was so disappointed this time that I chose to share my honest review.
Although the place is quite nice and we received good service, my negative review is about the dish itself. Sorry, but what I got was NOT Carbonara — it was a fettuccine Alfredo with a raw egg yolk on top (disgusting). I’m not Italian, but I’m pretty sure an Italian would have fainted at the sight of that, at the very least. I’ve tried Carbonara in Italy and several other European countries, and I can confidently say that what I was served was not Carbonara. Just remove it from the menu!
Their chicken parm is absolutely phenomenal – the saude is rich and flavorful, and the chicken is perfectly cooked, never dry.
The mussels are always delicious.
The bread service is a must! The butter with black salt takes it to another level!
We also tried the mushroom pesto pizza, and it was incredible.
The drinks can be excellent, depending on the bartender. Or good otherwise.
A special shoutout to Amanda, the general manager – she’s fantastic! Always smiling, checking in on tables, and making sure everything is running smoothly.
Rossi is a must-visit in the Short North!
