I give it a 3 star because the ribs taste as if it over fried and the Cajun fries taste like it was soak in grease and it mushy and the Mac n cheese seem like they just mixed it with shredded cheese and put in the plate. The rice was the only thing that taste good.

We were in town just to catch a flight home and wanted some Southern food. This place popped up and we had to give it a try. We didn’t go in but had it delivered to us. This place does not disappoint! I got the Chicken wing meal and let me tell you…the portion size is what shocked me. The size of the wings were good along with the jiving sauce….was absolutely delicious. The Mac and cheese and the collard was seasoned just right and I didn’t need to add anything to it. We also had the fish plate which again gave you a lot of food and was fried and seasoned to perfection. Whenever we are in town again, we will definitely have to try something new on the menu because this place is definitely worth coming back to.

So just seen this place on Instagram. Decided to go and try it. Last day in the city so the plan was breakfast and lunch/dinner. This place here is everything plus some more. First thing I tried was the Jukin Juice. That was great. But when I got to my shrimp and grits I was floored! The grits themselves were so good I almost forgot I had shrimp with it. Got my shrimp grilled. It was so good. Also got fried ribs with Mac n cheese candied yams and a side of greens. Though I will eventually have to try everything they make. Hands down shrimp and grits with a side of greens is all I need. So made I didn’t get a large. Everything was so good but shrimp and grits That was a big win for me. Got the strawberry shortcake cake. I only tried it. It was okay but not my fave. IMO it should be a butter cake but that’s my personal preference it was still good. Everything was eaten and I definitely have to return. Oh yeah my son got the wings and he said they were delicious. For once I didn’t even need to try his food. I was so in love with my grits!

The decorations brought back feelings of nostalgia and were great to look at while waiting.
Overall the food was okay. It definitely wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t mouthwatering. The fish was my favorite thing. I got a fish plate with Mac and cheese and yams. It was good and fairly quick. My husband got the jivin chicken wings. They were good but he said he would want to try with out the sauce. We also got some jivin shrimp. The chicken was better than the shrimp for flavor. We ordered two Dranks that I thought were way too sweet so I didn’t finish them. Lastly we order a pound cake and peach cobbler. They should definitely sale ice cream with the hot peach cobbler. The pound cake was a little dry.

I was not happy at all with this visit. I orders from 167 street the Grits was cold, I can’t even describe the taste of the fish. The mac and cheese was cold not even sure how that was possible cuts it was burnt to the bottom as well. Only thing that was ok on the plate was the shrimp. The lemonade taste like sour water wasn’t even color to the lemonade

Listen. I have a confession.

I travel to eat!

Point, blank and the period.

When I finally got off my plane in Miami, all I wanted was some catfish and grits. With a little help from Google, I found this place.

The pictures don’t lie, folks!

It was a nice little drive from South Beach, but oh so worth it!

First, I call. The young lady manning the phones and front was very helpful and kind. She informed me that her restaurant did not have dine-in options, but their other one did. I decided to go here because I really didn’t want to sit anywhere and eat. I just wanted to get my food , go back to my hotel to eat and then sleep, because I was exhausted..

She also offered that they were open that day, but closed on Thanksgiving and the Friday following.

Very good to know.

When I arrived, I found the restaurant in the corner of a shopping center next door to a barbershop.

Now, it is small, but it’s not a hole in the wall. I would not define it as that. It is a takeout restaurant, totally.

What I loved about the place was how they brought in so much black historic memorabilia that made you feel like you were taking a walk down memory lane. The young lady who I spoke with on the phone took my order and offered to call me when my order was ready. I had been sitting on a plane for 5 hours so I was in no rush to sit down. I needed to stand. I waited for my order. It took about 30-40 minutes, which told me that my food was made to order. That made me feel good.

I ordered catfish and grits. Since I knew I’d want food later that evening when I got to my hotel, I ordered another meal, as well. I also ordered chicken wings, greens and macaroni and cheese. It is worth noting that the wings are not full wings. They are wingettes. It is also worth noting that the wings come on a bed of rice, which was a pleasant surprise, because I was not expecting that.

I prefer to eat my food hot, so as soon as I got into my car I dug in right away. Everything was delicious. My test for determining if something is really good is eating it when it’s cold. Later that night when I was in my hotel room I pulled both styrofoam plates out to try everything and it was all just as delicious as it was hot. To me that’s the true test. If your fried chicken is just as good cold as it is hot, then you got some good fried chicken.

I am a macaroni and cheese connoisseur. No, seriously, I am! I have never tasted macaroni and cheese quite like this. I think they put goat cheese in it. Effed me up. Delicious!

The fried chicken was good, but I could tell that they blanch their wings, which means they partially cook them at the top of the day, so when someone orders them, they don’t have to cook as long. I usually hate blanched wings, but theirs weren’t chewy like most.

The collard greens, which are prepared without pork, were also delicious. Now it’s worth noting that I never eat greens without hot sauce. Never, ever.

When I asked the young lady if they had hot sauce and she told me they didn’t, I copped an immediate attitude. I was prepared to knock them down a star when I penned my review. Just for that.

My thought:
How on God’s green earth are you going to be a New-Orleans derived business, and NOT offer folks hot sauce? That makes NO sense!

But the spirit said, just try it first. So glad I was obedient. How about this? It didn’t even need hot sauce! That’s how good their food is, people.

The catfish looked like a billboard model. I have never seen OR tasted perfectly fried catfish like this before. The grits were perfectly buttered with the right amount of texture. I cannot stand when you eat grits and they are not the slightest bit gritty! When they are like that, they’ve been overcooked, something very common in our community. Anywho, not the case here. Also, if grits are just as good cold as they are hot, they’re good and their grits are FIRE!!

Just go ahead. Do yourself a favor and drive on over there to get you a plate or two or three.

You’ll thank me later.

So today my husband and I wanted to try this place out. We went to the Pembroke Pines location. The jivin juice was delicious. The chicken wings was ok, the fish and grits was ok we liked the fish but the grits was alright. I had the shrimp dinner the collard greens and Mac and cheese needed flavor. The gumbo was not gumbo it was soup. Instead of white rice they gave the same rice in the shrimp dinner I think it’s called Cajun rice. It’s not gumbo without a roux and file or saffron. My only critique is that the music was very loud I had to keep saying huh to the cashier and I kept shouting to place my order. The music should be light not loud and shouting.
