The food is awesome and the service is typically great. Atmosphere has a cozy southern vibe to it.
They make what is arguably the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! It’s got a super flaky crust with just the right amount of crunch and the chicken is super tender and juicy. I always recommend the chicken and waffles but it seems like everything they make is really good.
It’s a busy spot, so make reservations or show up early with time to wait for a table. The porch is enclosed with heaters in the winter.

I had the Lowcountry Shrimp and Grits. The addition of two over medium eggs really elevated the experience, combining well with the grits and sauce. The shrimp themselves were rather plain, and I got the impression they were cooked separately and then had the sauce added. The meal was still very tasty, but it was lacking that last bit of flavor. The atmosphere is great and it has a full bar in addition to the dining area.

Fried Chicken Dinner is very good. Chicken waffle and chicken sandwich are also good. The price is on the higher side but the portion size justifies it. One downside is that they don’t have vegan options. They have veggies options that come with cheese but you can ask to make it vegan. However, the portion size for the vegan option is so small as you can see in the photo.

This southerner approves! Many delicious options. Definitely Gulf Coast inspired. You can never go wrong with anything praline or shrimp & grits!! Can’t wait to bring my husband by. Street parking and I was able to find a spot just around the corner! I do not own the phrase “just around the corner” according to Joe Fox.

We absolutely love this place, it is a Portland must visit. Screen Door brings southern food and service to the PNW. We eat here regularly but also love to hit them up for a special occasion. This morning New Years breakfast was a must have for the Black Eyed Peas and they did not disappoint. Devina was a gracious, friendly and outgoing waitress that delivered top notch service that matched the drinks and food. Thank you for starting out our 2026 on the right foot.

Went on a Sunday morning around 10am. Parking was alright, we were able to find a spot on the street just around the corner. There wasn’t too much of a wait for a party of two, maybe five minutes or so. Food was delicious, I really like that you can get half portions of the entrees. The pork shoulder eggs Benedict was very good, the breakfast potatoes were fantastic. My friend got the shrimp and grits and really enjoyed it. Service was friendly and prompt. The only thing that I did not love, was the noise. It was so overwhelmingly loud so if you get overstimulated by loud restaurants, I would avoid going on the weekends. Otherwise would defintely recommend!

I hadn’t been to the Screen Door in years and my guy had never been so on a whim we decided to visit.
Service was outstanding…our server was attentive and informative and took excellent care of us. The restaurant seems well staffed and everyone working that we encountered was friendly and welcoming.
The food was amazing…he had chicken and dumplings (so good) and I created my own combination…chicken tenders, chicory salad and red beans and rice. Everything was well prepared and delicious…I haven’t had red beans and rice that good since I lived in Florida.
It’s wonderful that this iconic spot is still thriving…we will be back!

Amazing shrimp and grits!!! Everyone was pleased with their food & portions! We were able to make a reservation (very nice) noon on a Sunday and the place was packed – with good reason!! Service was great, and although it was very busy we weren’t rushed out.
It’s spacious and open, no booth style seating.

This restaurant is absolutely fabulous. The offer an assortment of chicken related dishes all of which are fantastic.
I got chicken tenders with sides of mac and cheese and fries. Their homemade ranch is phenomenal.
My friend got the same but with mashed potatoes and those were also delicious.
It wasn’t too busy when we went (weekday) but a booking would definitely be needed on the weekend.

Screen door is famous for their brunch, but I think their dinner is really where it’s at! Don’t fret, you can get their acclaimed chicken & waffles for dinner, too!
