Do you smell the pizza?! This hidden gem off NW 24th Street is an original, authentic Italian restaurant that you have to try.

• The Pizza: A seasoned, buttery garlic crust that is just perfect.

• The Alfredo: Moist chicken seasoned with fresh pepper—it truly melts in your mouth.

While the menu is extensive, the vibe is humble. It’s not fancy or high-end; it’s just honest, original food. The owners are incredibly welcoming and make the experience even better.

Bonus: They have a kitchen score of A+! ✨ Who’s getting hungry?

When we first pulled up to Alla Nonna’s on San Antonio’s West Side, the building looked pretty inconspicuous from the outside — one of those hidden gems you might drive right past if you didn’t know better. But after hearing all the local buzz, we knew we were in for a treat. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. Though the restaurant is primarily known for takeout, there’s plenty of comfortable space to dine inside — and a few outdoor tables perfect for enjoying a meal when the weather’s nice.

We started with the mozzarella sticks and calamari fries, both golden-fried and full of flavor. The mozzarella sticks had one of the best cheese pulls I’ve ever seen, and the calamari fries were crisp, tender, and perfectly breaded — just like everything else on the menu. You can really taste the difference in the care they put into their ingredients.

For entrées, we enjoyed the chicken parmesan, lasagna Bolognese, and chicken piccata — and honestly, we loved them all. But if there had to be a showstopper, it was the chicken parmesan. Perfectly cooked, moist chicken with just the right amount of breading, topped with house-made tomato sauce and melted mozzarella. I asked what made it stand out, and they mentioned the chicken is halal — but I think it’s really about the chef’s skill and passion shining through. The lasagna was rich, layered, and comforting, while the piccata surprised me with its bright, lemony butter sauce and capers — a dish that instantly reminded me why I love it.

Dessert sealed the deal: cannolis made fresh daily (my go-to favorite) and a cheesecake topped with macerated strawberries that hit the sweet spot without being too sugary — my wife’s top pick. The balance of flavors from start to finish made it one of those meals you just don’t want to end.

Chef Raul Mendoza, a longtime San Antonio favorite and former executive chef at Paesanos Riverwalk, pours his heart into every plate. His story, his team, and his flavors bring something truly special to this side of town — proof that great Italian doesn’t have to come with a downtown price tag.

If you’re craving scratch-made Italian classics that feel like they came straight from Nonna’s kitchen, take the drive to the West Side.

At Alla Nonna’s, you don’t just taste the food — you taste the love San Antonio’s been missing.

Today a friend and I visited Nonna’s for lunch, this was my 2nd time here. The food was fresh and delicious, we ordered the special which was the chicken Alfredo and also pepperoni pizza on the side. Both items came out hot and made to order with generous portions. The customer service was fantastic, we always get greeted and welcomed with ample service. The price of the menu items are very affordable compared to other bigger Italian chains. This family owned establishment is definitely a new favorite for Italian! Thank you so much for the delicious food, and wonderful service!

We ordered the Thanksgiving package and I am SO impressed! From the moment I stepped into their establishment, everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The price was super reasonable for how much food we received, and everything was absolutely delicious. The turkey was tender and seasoned perfectly, the ham was flavorful, and all the sides were just as delicious. Everything came neatly packaged and ready to serve, and honestly made my day stress free. Our whole family loved it Highly recommend! We will definitely be ordering from them again!

My first time at Alla Nonnas and Wow!!! Talk about a flavourful pizza. My brother had the pepperoni and swore it was one of the most delicious pizza he’s eaten. I had the Margherita pizza and it was spot on, next time I will ask the Chef to leave the pizza In the oven for just a bit longer. My sister ordered the Gluten Free pizza. They got her order wrong, she still managed to enjoy her pizza she loved it!
Lastly the eggplant Parmesan was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back for more of this amazing food. Please come and checkout Alla Nonna, support your local businesses. This place will not disappoint you.

Tried the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Absolutely delicious. It was hot, creamy and cheesy. Better than Olive Garden in our opinion. Great portion size. Love what they’ve done with the place. Pizzeria before looked so trashy. Can’t wait to be back to try the pizza.

If you’re looking for some seriously good Italian food, you have to check out Allá Nonna’s! From start to finish, the meal showcased both quality and care in preparation. The chicken tortellini with pesto was phenomenal—the chicken itself was moist, perfectly spiced, and easily among the best I’ve ever had. The pesto was fresh and balanced, complementing the pasta beautifully. The Caesar salad was crisp and well-dressed, and the pasta salad offered a light, refreshing contrast. Between the amazing food and the cozy vibe, this place is an easy recommendation. I’ll definitely be going back!

For my birthday dinner, I placed an order for delivery and I was so excited since I’ve read many good reviews. To be disappointed is an understatement me and my wife got food poisoning from it and we’re in the bathroom all night. All of the food was undercooked. Take a look at the picture for yourself no crispiness I put it in the microwave and it was still disgusting. I will never come to this place again and I hope that they fix their food.
