Since we were a little pressed for time, I ordered the mini Honest Bowl. I chose basmati rice, zaatar steak, fresh cucumber, signature hummus, lemon vinaigrette, and sunflower seeds. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the portion was generous even for a “mini.” I really appreciated that they weigh the protein — you truly get what you’re paying for (and all your steak ).
I also love that they have their ingredients and allergy information posted in the store. It makes it easier to navigate gluten-free options. My bowl ingredients are typically gluten-free, but if you have celiac or a high sensitivity, it’s always best to ask questions and confirm things like marinades or dressings just to be safe. It’s not a dedicated gluten-free facility, but I appreciate the transparency.
The space was clean, well-kept, and had a relaxed energy that made it easy to unwind after a meeting. Staff was polite, friendly, and professional, and service moved smoothly.
Definitely a solid lunch spot in Royal Oak — especially if you want something quick, fresh, and customizable.
I placed an order for pickup and arrived at the designated time. Upon arriving I was greeted by a staff member informing me they would begin working on the order. 4 separate customers walked in for new walk in orders all who were served first. When I asked for an update on my online order, I was told they had a lot going on and would get to it when they got to it while continuing to serve new walk in customers. After 30 minutes of this when asking for a refund, I was told they “did not know how” and were too busy to do that.
The food at other locations is great, but avoid online ordering or interacting with the staff at all costs from Royal Oak unless you want to have your time wasted and be disrespected.
I was greeted promptly and the man that prepared my bowl was very pleasant.
My absolute shock and disgust came from something I witnessed while there. I heard one of the guys say they needed bread. I then saw one of the workers go to the oven area and put the dough on the oven conveyor WITH HIS BARE HANDS!!! I asked the guy that was ringing up my meal if he could tell me why the guy was preparing bread with his bare hands. He told me that the oven heats up to 500°. I told him it didn’t matter how hot the oven was, they shouldn’t be touching food with their bare hands! He agreed that I was right.
I’m sure it’s not a surprise that I elected not to have the bread, but I have no doubt that the practice of handling dough with ungloved hands has been going on consistently at this location. I would suggest going to a different location because in addition to the disgusting bread practices, the meat in my bowl was dry and tasted nothing like my regular location. I will never go to the Royal Oak location again!
