Great BBQ. Tender ribs and brisket. Sauce had excellent hot flavor. Could be the best sauce in the state west of West Memphis. Welcoming service. Even serves free pinto beans!

Ran across this place in my travels and decided to give it a whirl. There is plenty of parking here. You walk in and order at the counter, and the menu is posted on the wall to your left, coming in, above the ordering counter, and on the counter where you place your order. The young guy taking my order could not answer what type of sausage was that was listed on the menu. He also had a hard time hearing me for some reason. It’s a seat yourself kind of place, and you dump your own trash and place your basket on a shelf above the trash can. I ordered the medium plate with 2 types of meat with cole slaw and baked beans. The beans had a decent flavor to them, and the cole slaw was good and crisp. The sausage was s polish kielbasa type and was good and juicy and flavorful. The brisket was sliced but was lacking in any good flavor. It did not have a deep smokey flavor at all. I had to use BBQ sauce on it to help it out, and it was a bit on the dry side. They did have pickles and onions on a little condiment bar, and they had multiple BBQ sauces to choose from. All in all, it’s an okay place, but they need to have a better smoky flavor in their meat. 1 1/4 thumbs up on this one.

Let me start by saying, 5 stars was an understatement! I had the brisket, and chopped pork, absolutely off the charts. If your considering going here, don’t second guess it, as well as the staff was very professional, and courteous.

Stopped at the place advertised on the 2nd billboard I saw. That’s just me , and I’m happy about it. Got both the pulled pork sandwich and ribs, with potato salad and the complimentary Pinto Beans. Choice of 4 sauces and a little dress up bar with Jalapeños, onions and cucumbers. I chose the tangy sauce over the regular. The regular reminded me of a flavor from Memphis and the tangy was unique. And it sticks with you a bit. Enjoy.

Big Jake’s has been around a long time in the Texarkana area. The Hope location is good as well. It’s not a fancy place, but it does have pretty good barbecue. Their fries are amazing!

Stopped here for dinner, my eleventh ‘cue stop in Arkansas and 370th in a 35 state odyssey. I went with a loaded baked potato (pork), and two fried pies (apricot, cherry) for $18.17. The potato was gigantic, and very well prepared. The pork had a good mix of bark and meat, and was a good sized serving, but with minimal smoke. It required a house sauce to bring it to life. The pies were good-sized, but thin. More fruit filling would not be out of order.
