If you want a spot that perfectly blends that laid-back Texas charm with the best views in San Antonio, Texas River Bar is the place to be. Located right in the historic La Villita area, it’s just steps away from the Arneson River Theatre and offers a much more authentic feel than some of the more “touristy” spots further down.
Why It’s a Great Stop:
The Location: Being in La Villita gives it a great historic backdrop. It feels tucked away and special, even though it’s right in the heart of the action.
The Atmosphere: The patio is fantastic. There is nothing better than grabbing a cold drink and watching the river boats go by. It’s high-energy but still relaxing enough to actually enjoy a conversation.
The Flavors: They do “Texas-inspired” right. Whether you’re looking for a bold cocktail or some solid BBQ bites, the menu delivers on that local flavor you’re looking for when you visit San Antonio.
Service: The staff here is fast and friendly—exactly the kind of “work hard, be nice” hospitality you expect in the Lone Star State.
A Tip for Visitors:
It’s a great “middle ground” spot. It’s close enough to the Convention Center and major hotels to be convenient, but the riverside views make it feel like a true escape.

Wow! What an experience. The staff is amazing, thank you Anthony for making us feel like friends/family for the three nights we came to eat. We couldn’t decide on anywhere else to eat and then COULDN’T leave!
The brisket is amazing. Love the smoke level and tenderness!
We got the deviled eggs, Mac and cheese, tacos and nachos topped with brisket (all over three meals/days). WE CAME BACK TO TAKE HOME A POUND OF BRISKET! We made deviled eggs today and added some brisket so I guess we ate your food 4 days in a row!!!
Nice late night happy hour with love music and great lighting and view of Riverwalk.

We came in for a taste of bbq and the $5 margaritas happy hour. We were seated quickly on the outdoor upper level and ordered a margarita on the rocks and a soda, both of which took 10 minutes to arrive, and were delivered by a second server. There were only a couple of other tables, both of which had already been served. Our order for tacos was taken and brought very quickly by a third server. As this was at 3’ish, the music was not yet blasting. We were charged the full price for the margarita, which was a little on the sour side and was only supposed to be $5. Not that we mind paying but we were told that it was happy hour. After paying and questioning the bill, we were informed that the happy hour was was only for frozen margaritas. Coupled with the fact that the food was just ‘meh’ we will not be coming back.

Food was very good and the place was empty. Prices weren’t too bad. Service was slower than I expected and the wait staff hovers over you when you pay guilting you into higher tipping which I don’t like. They do a military discount which was nice.

Very disappointing service. Server came to table with no greeting and said what can I get you. Came back with the drinks, forgot one and never came back with it. Food brought out by food runner who dropped and left. I had to walk and go hunt for silverware, napkins, and condiments. No one came to check on us. A busser was walking by and I asked to get our server. A different server came over and I asked for the jalapenos and sour cream the nachos came with. She apologized and said will get right away. After 10mins the hostess came to check on us and I asked again about jalapenos and sour cream. She apologized and said right away. After another five minutes she came back, nachos almost finished. No refills on any drinks offered. Just forgotten about. A while after we finished eating the server came and asked if we were finished, gave me my check and said she has been so busy tonight and showed me all of her checks she has had for the night. I said they should get you some help. Food was ok. Restrooms were dirty. Guess we paid for the riverwalk view, which was beautiful.

We came in on a Saturday night because of the live music from Tone’s Country! We sat up top near the bar area and had wonderful, attentive service! The live music was perfect, the atmosphere was warm and cozy, perfect spot for a date night on the river. We enjoyed the street tacos and fantastic cocktails!

First time in Texas and really wanted for try BBQ. Order the platter that feeds 6 people and we had 2 boxes of leftovers. Drinks were really good and tasteful. The brisket, sausage and chicken were really good but the turkey was a little dry. The Mac n cheese and green beans were delicious but the potato salad was mid. Went there Halloween night the location and vibes were great. Live music and the river walk right there was great. Our server was super attentive and overall recommend this place

The street tacos were good. The brisket nachos were good. The brisket/rib combo was not good. The brisket is cut into slices earlier than it’s being served, so it is dry. The ribs were big, but mostly fat. There isn’t pulled pork or brisket on the menu. I would not recommend eating here.
