I was immediately greeted with a smile and a beautiful scent of smoked brisket.

Tim, the business manager on duty was very personable and recommended his fully loaded potato.
The food and service was excellent – I highly recommend friends and family to visit. Anyone who loves Texas bbq will be pleased coming here for some good bbq.
Here is a photo of the fully loaded baked potato with some smoked jalapeño sausage.

I get the stuffed baked potato. It’s always so good. It’s loaded with the usual and add 1 meat, chopped brisket of course. The brisket is tender, juicy and smoky, and the BBQ sauce is delicious! I love the way they bake the potato. Some places make it hard and dried out but the potato is soft, with butter, cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon bits and loaded with that brisket. You can get whatever other meat you might want. I’m sure it’ll be good. 10/10 would recommend.

I recently visited Rick’s BBQ and tried the beef ribs. While the flavor was decent, the ribs weren’t as tender as I hoped—they could use more cooking time to achieve that perfect fall-off-the-bone texture. On the bright side, the variety of side dishes was impressive and very tasty, which added a lot to the meal. The prices are very reasonable, making it a solid choice overall, but there’s room for improvement on the main dish.

First time , trying food here. Might have arrived after lunch rush. The ribs were really dry , the bbq sauce saved them , toast was great , the real star of the show was the Mac & Cheese , not even a big fan of Mac , but theirs was

The brisket, mac and chesse, sausage and more were very good! It had a very original texas smokey flavor that tasted unique that not many places in texas have good this good. Atmosphere was amazing with alot of pictures and animal parts. The service was really nice and easy to communicate. Would really recommend for everyone near this place and would definitely come again!

I’ve been going to Rick’s for years and was always pleased with the food and service, however I went for lunch recently and ordered the special, it was Friday so it was beef ribs. I must say, they were the worst ribs I’ve ever tried to eat. They were tough, as if they needed to be smoked longer. Also, the price was absurd, $20.56, for lunch, for one person. Maybe they are under new management or maybe the cook is new, but I will not be going back.

Update 2025
Brisket a bit dry, must have been smoked 5-6 days ago. Turkey very dry and overcooked. As mentioned by another reviewer, the potato salad is overloaded with mustard, I ended up not eating it. They are a low volume bbq place so they can’t smoke meats fresh daily and must serve it for many days after smoking.

I had hoped that they would have gotten better in two years, sadly they have not.

Two years ago-
What was once fairly good has dropped to mediocre. Almost no smoke ring on the brisket, had to look really close to find a little bit of one. As others have mentioned the meat was very dry, even dousing it in barbecue sauce did not help. The meat seemed like it had been out for several days and dried out. The green beans also seemed like they’ve been on the steam table for several days, we’re mushy and had lost most of their color.

The serving sizes are large, the prices modest, but these cannot offset the poor quality that they are serving today. I can see why so many people have complained about how dry the meat is. With all the barbecue places around, there really is no need to try this one.

Upon entering you get a family oriented atmosphere which is great for bar b que foods. It was enjoyable, quite, and filled with chuckles or small laughter. The menu is pretty easy to read and comprehend and they also have a great selection of sides, sandwiches and or plates as well as catering.
I ordered the brisket sandwich on texas toast with a sausage link added to it. I explained it was my first time at this fine establishment and I was eagerly helped. I asked for a marbled/moist brisket with jalapeño and cheese sausage. The food was good and tasty. I did receive what I asked for but I feel as if the brisket was over heated just a bit. I didn’t quite get that marbled texture of brisket where it’s a bit stretchy and glistening, instead I received a almost dry but kinda moist brisket. I don’t want to say roast beef because it was not quite there at the level but looking at the brisket you can tell it was headed there. The sausage was delicious but it was obvious it was under the heat lamp a little bit too long. The outside of the sausage was dry but the internal sausage was good. I still ate all of it because the food was still delicious. . I also got Mac n cheese which was great! I also hot the okra! Now the okra was fried perfectly and even before finishing my meal they stayed perfectly fried. Not like other places where they get rock hard or soggy and wet. This establishment had a complimentary bar which included pickled jalapeños, raw onion, pickles and other items. I received about 6ozs of barb que sauce in a small cup which was more then plenty which is a plus! I was able to dunk my sandwich in it and enjoy every bite with N adequate amount of sauce.. over all I would give this place a 6.5-7 out of 10. It has great potential. I will be returning!!
Ok, upon returning for the 2nd time, (11/8/22) the brisket was the same texture, same with the sausage. This time I got my gf opinion and she said the same thing. Dry on the outside and ok in the middle, as far as the brisket, I asked for marbled/moist meat on my baked potato and again received an almost marbled but dry brisket.. baked potato was a good size and good portions of condiments added to it.

For the last 5 yrs I’ve been desperately looking for a wholesome, family-vibed, bbq joint here in Garland & have been unsuccessful UNTIL today where on the way to do Christmas shopping I saw Rick’s Smokehouse Barbecue & it was summoning me there. Treated the wife & bought to go for kids we left at home.
Place is very homey & pretty big inside.
They are fast & prices are AMAZINGLY low & they PACK your plates.
Staff is friendly & have that Garland/Texas vibe.
I will be going back from now on as this is my only bbq place from now on.
