Usually I prefer other types of Asian food over Chinese food because Chinese food, no matter what dish I ordered, often would make me feel miserable afterwards. With Golden Dragon though, so far we’ve eaten their food (take-out) twice and I’ve not felt miserable at all. I ordered the Chicken and Chinese Vegetables with an order of Vegetable Fried Rice both times and it was consistently delicious. All of the vegetables tasted fresh. My husband ordered Orange Chicken the first time and General Tsos Chicken the second. Both meals were excellent. Had the perfect amount of spice. They also make some sauces in house. I ordered the white sauce and my husband ordered the spicy mustard. Their white sauce is VERY good. The spicy mustard is made with horseradish and it packs a punch. Be warned! I am thrilled to finally have a Chinese restaurant in our rotation that I really enjoy the food. Especially since Chinese food is my husband’s favorite Asian cuisine. They also offer a food bar that you can dine-in or take-out. They will provide you with a Styrofoam container to fill and weigh it. We’ve not tried the bar yet but will on our next visit. The staff are very friendly and will answer any questions you have about what you’re ordering. They’ll even make your order without MSG, if requested. This does not apply to the bar. Love the atmosphere from the decorative tiles on the ceiling, the ornate light fixtures, etched glass at the entrance, the giant fish tank with gold fish, the large decorative fans on the walls, and all the live plants. It has a very welcoming ambiance. This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant and will be our go-to hence forth. Highly recommend!

The place itself is okay and the service was great. The food however was just not good. That’s putting it nicely. We both got the lunch buffet and there wasn’t much to it. The hibachi chicken was literally just unseasoned grilled chicken with soggy zucchini and onions. The white rice tasted like minute rice. The ranch for the salad wasn’t even good! The dumpling sauce wasn’t good either..sigh..
The staff was incredibly friendly and the overall atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting though. Just wish the food was better.

Golden Dragon is an above average Chinese restaurant in the Madison-Mayodan area. I eat there once a week and have never been disappointed. This is primarily a buffet style but you can order individual items. I recommend the basics such as Chicken and Broccoli or Beef and Broccoli. Staff is friendly and its never too crowded. Nice atmosphere in the dining room and always very clean.

Arrive late and you may be told that you can get a To-Go Box.
They have a very good buffet and a box of food from it would make two or three meals for me.
We ate in the main dining area, maybe next time we’ll eat in the room with a view of the Koi Pond.

We were riding our motorcycles through town and decided to stop for Chinese. This place is fantastic. I ordered from the menu and my friend got the buffet. Everything was great. The atmosphere (sat outside) and staff were top notch. You can’t go wrong with the Golden Dragon!

Update: I decided to give this place another try thinking they may have just had an off day during my last visit. BIG MISTAKE. I found a hair in my food. I told the lady at the register. She claimed everyone in the kitchen was bald, so it must have come off another customer. It was a new batch and I scooped from the bottom of the tray. She got defensive and said, “that’s the chance you take at a buffet.” I ate a little before finding the hair and she MADE me pay, but charged me for a kids buffet. I shouldn’t have had to pay anything. They also should have put out a new batch of the beef and broccoli. They didn’t. This is the closest place near me, but I definitely won’t be back. I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS IF I COULD.
The taste of the food was off. This is what cultural appropriation must taste like. Every single employee I saw during my visit was Caucasian (other than the bus boy). The people who recommended this place must not have any taste buds.
The buffet was one of the smallest I’ve seen with very little selection. Half the trays were empty and people sat around for 30 minutes just to make their to-go containers. Face masks and gloves weren’t enforced and they should be when people are standing over food.
Their sesame chicken was the hardest I’ve ever had. The crab wontons had absolutely no crab taste, not even a synthetic flavor. There was almost nothing in the salad and dessert section.
I’m only giving it 2 stars because their broccoli is the most tender I’ve gotten from a buffet and their pepper chicken was good despite not having peppers in it. I won’t be returning as this was the worst “Chinese” food I’ve ever had.

This was my first time going there and I ordered sesame chicken combo as a pickup. It was hot which was great and the flavoring was on point. I do wish I would have been given more sauce packets but I had some soy sauce so that is not a biggie. I will be coming back and maybe next time I will dine in.
