We had the Medudo and tamales!
Obe thing about Abilene tamales. WHY ARE THEY MADE SO SMALL!
My aunties and mom made tamales every Christmas. I ate them extensively my whole life. They were always big. Like a 2″x4″ long and wide. (Not the lumber). Here in Abilene they have the exact same size of a store vought hot dog weenie. WHY?
I digress.
Food – what are you waiting for! Classic Mexican dishes. Hard working servers, with great service skills. Con- because the food is so good half the town is here allowing for longer wait times for ypu to order and then to be served.
It inside needs work. Drywall on ceiling is cracking. Bad repair jobs. Large fridges on dining room. Old paint. Stuff like that.
The food was not a mark on the food quality whatsoever. Again. Whatvare you waiting for to MENUDO was good.
Side note: i was told their tortillas are from Hernandez Panaderia. So, they too support local businesses! Another reason to support them.
Parking:
is tight. Asphalt is almost all gone. Saw mud after most recent rain, dries quickly. There is a drive-thru. Mostly dirt.
Exterior: like many of the establishments in the area, they arent gorgeous to look at. However, the exterior paint of of a Shamrock Shake green but looks semi-run down. If anyone in town were to be nominated for a makeover HGTV show. Its this place. Thevold proverb, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Sorry no photos from this visit!
They have an “A” rating from the city!
SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS!
I also tried a barbacoa “gordita”. That was what saved my breakfast. Also tried eggs with cactus (Nopales con Huevo) and was not impressed. The coffee tasted as if it was made by the same dude who made the menudo.
I usually give places two or three chances, but even the people with who I had breakfast agreed that their food was lame. I did not try the rice and beans; maybe they were the game changer, but they were not pleasing to the eye.
