Pretty decent and authentic Korean restaurant in North Richmond. We tried the 6 person combo and there was a lot of food! It’s cooked in the kitchen instead of BBQ’ing yourself, which is fine for us.

We ordered a little extra just in case and we probably didn’t need to as the portions are fairly generous.

Lots of tables and parking, but we went during lunch, so it’s hard to say if reservation is needed.

Weekend dinner with friends, we were craving for bbq, but the place we wanted to go has a 2-3 hour wait, so we have decided to get Korean bbq

This was my first time here, it was surprisingly good.

Service was very good, they were a little behind when they got busy. Side dishes kept coming the whole night

Food was very good. Meat was very well marinated, soup was good, seafood pancakes were crispy

Decor is a little dated, but give it a Korean vibe

Hello! I had the chance to try out Dai Jang Kum again after a long time. My family had to remind me that I had been here before for me to remember! The Korean Beef and Chicken was delicious. The stoves were hot and tuned up to a great temperature. The cooking surface was big enough to put multiple pieces of meat onto the tray.

I came here recently with a group of friends. There were 6 of us at the table. We order two – Combo C’s which could theoretically fill up 6 people. However, the portions felt like it was more suitable for 4 people. Many of us had a small appetite — I was the only one with a lot more. I was surprised how quickly the food disappeared and how hungry I still felt. Remember, I did eat a filling breakfast just a couple hours before.

The service was great. The staff were accommodating, kind and efficient when our group had to move from one stove, to two stoves, to better accommodate for the cooking. We stayed for an hour and 30 minutes, eating and talking with one another.

The parking lot was largely empty on the day we went. I wished there were more people that found out about this hidden gem. Though I am not aware of any all-you-can eat options, I wished they charged less for the combos. Each of the 6 of us had to pay around $38 dollars plus tax. But, I still left feeling hungry. I guess there is always a trade of between all-you-can-eat and pay for what you eat.

The seating can sit upwards of 100 people. The washrooms were clean and tidy. Food was great, but portions and pricing not so much. Thank you for this restaurant!

Had a late dinner of Pork bone soup, it was very good and my wife had the dumpling soup which was also excellent. Service was fast and friendly. We were offered extra kimchi and other garnish for our food a couple of times. The kimchi was excellent! There is the Korean BBQ option if you have the time to cook your own meal.

I had a great lunch here at Dai Jang Kum on a lazy day off. My brother usually frequents here for lunch. He told me the lunch special boxes are pretty decent. So why not, I gave it a shot.

First off the service was a bit slow to start but everything eventually caught up and we were even asked if we needed anything extra or refills and napkins. The gentleman who was bringing our food must had been really busy. We asked for the Korean side dishes, sweet potato, kimchi, seaweed, and sprouts. He said it’s not included…
It wasn’t until another server came and said he’s wrong it is included for free…

Our miso soups came along with it which is free. Alot of miscommunication.
Our Korean boxes came and there’s a good variety. The short ribs could’ve been darker and richer in marinade sauce and cooked longer. Food is good but nothing special for lunch. Perhaps dinner would be better. I would love to come back for dinner.

Plenty of parking all around if you’re worried about door dents. Affordable dining experience. Good food. It can get crazy busy here with a small serving staff.

It was my second time visiting and got served by excellent staff. We had a long hangout that night like two hours while mo one was trying to kick us out. Also we were asked for nearly 10 times if we need more side dishes (for free), honestly their side dishes are also delicious and big. But almost 3-4 staff kept asking with their kindness which we felt so bad sitting that long and consuming so many side dishes.
Thank you for giving us a cozy space and ‘full’ night, the beef soup was amazing!

We ordered a BBQ meats with seafood soup combo and a seafood pancake for dinner. The side dishes were good, love the salad. The meats were heavily marinated that found quite salty as well as the soup. If you like heavy favour that might the place you look for. The seafood BBQ for 1 person was $40+.

Amazing Korean food and outstanding service! As a vegetarian, I truly appreciated how accommodating the restaurant was. The owner went out of their way to replace the seafood pancake with a delicious vegetarian version just for me. Every dish was mouth-watering, and the refillable side dishes were tasty. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. Highly recommend this place-you’ll love it!

Day Jang Kum Korean Barbecue Restaurant

Address: 3088 St Edward Dr #109, Richmond, BC V6X 1N4

After craving authentic Korean cuisine, we decided to visit Day Jang Kum, a well-known Korean barbecue restaurant in Richmond. The location is convenient, and parking is readily available, which made our arrival hassle-free.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly greeted by the hostess, who courteously inquired if we preferred a BBQ table to cook our own meal. Opting for the full Korean barbecue experience, I chose to cook for myself and my dining companion.

We were quickly seated, and within minutes, an array of traditional Korean side dishes, or banchan, was served. The selection was extensive, offering a variety of flavors and textures that perfectly complemented the main dishes. Each side dish was fresh, well-prepared, and added to the overall dining experience.

For our main course, we ordered the Combo
Special “Jang,” which is designed for three people. This generous set included BBQ meats, seafood tofu soup, and seafood pancakes, offering a comprehensive sampling of Korean barbecue staples.

BBQ Meat:

The BBQ meats were well-marinated and cooked to perfection. The seasoning was balanced, enhancing the natural flavors of the meat without overpowering them. The portion sizes were generous and satisfying, making this a highlight of the meal.

Rating: 7/10

Seafood Tofu Soup:

The seafood tofu soup was outstanding. The broth was flavorful, with just the right amount of spice, creating a harmonious blend of heat and umami. The ingredients were fresh, and the portion size was ample, making this dish a standout.

Rating: 9/10

Seafood Pancake:

The seafood pancake was another strong offering. It was crisp and golden, with a delightful mixture of seafood inside. The accompanying dipping sauce was particularly addictive, providing a tangy and savory contrast to the pancake’s richness. The texture was perfectly crispy without being greasy, making this dish enjoyable from start to finish.

Rating: 8/10

Service:

The service at Day Jang Kum was exemplary. Our waitress was attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. She checked in frequently but discreetly, allowing us to enjoy our dining experience without feeling rushed. The staff’s professionalism and warmth significantly enhanced our visit.

Rating: 9/10

Ambiance:

While the ambiance is slightly dated, it adds to the charm of the restaurant. The cozy, unpretentious environment makes for a relaxed dining experience. Despite the decor being a bit out of step with modern trends, the comfort and welcoming atmosphere more than compensate.

Rating : 7/10

Verdict:
Day Jang Kum delivers a solid Korean barbecue experience, combining quality food with excellent service. The convenient location, ample parking, and the restaurant’s dedication to authentic Korean flavors make it a must-visit. We will certainly be returning for another meal.

I really like their food selection. Portion sizes were larger than I expected. Oxtail soup was great and seafood fried rice was good.
