There’s something refreshingly straightforward about Pio’s Pizzeria in Bristol. Located in a gray-sided building with a modest storefront, it doesn’t announce itself with a splash – just a simple red and green sign promising pizza, which is exactly what it delivers.
We visited Pio’s after a morning at the bowling alley, celebrating my father’s 86th birthday. Bristol itself is a town of contrasts – historic sea captain homes alongside working waterfronts, the gleaming prestige of Roger Williams University next to time-honored local businesses that have endured decades of coastal New England seasons. Although it is much newer, Pio’s fits right in with that unpretentious character.
Inside, R&B music fills a space that’s both modern and nostalgic. The walls are covered with nostalgic wallpaper featuring vintage Italian advertisements – Campari, Cinzano, Nutella – creating a colorful backdrop to the black metal chairs and red tabletops. Edison bulbs hang over the wooden counter where a “Welcome Pizza Lovers” neon sign glows beside coolers stocked with Smartwater and Coca-Cola products.
The menu is straightforward – hand-tossed pizzas, Italian grinders, and salads. Noth8ng fancy, no pretense. We ordered a pepperoni and olive pizza, served on green-and-white checkered paper. The crust truly was the star – chewy and flavorful with a dusting of flour that speaks to its handmade character. It varied in thickness, thinner in the middle and fuller at the edges, evidence of its hand-tossed preparation.
The sauce brought brightness and bold flavor to each bite, though the cheese and pepperoni were more supporting players than standouts. But the quality of ingredients was evident, and the overall balance made for a satisfying, filling meal.
What stands out most was the atmosphere – bright, happy, comfortable. The service was genuinely friendly without being overbearing. We never felt rushed, even after we’d finished our food but weren’t ready to end our visit. The staff allowed us the space to linger and enjoy unhurried conversations, something increasingly rare in today’s dining scene.
It was the perfect setting for our small family gathering – my father celebrating his 86th year with his sons, everyone enjoying good food in good company.
Pio’s captures Bristol’s spirit perfectly. It’s not trying to be anything other than what it is: a place where the pizza is made with care, the environment is welcoming, and conversations flow easily over good food.
For my father’s birthday lunch after bowling, it was exactly right. Sometimes the most memorable meals aren’t about culinary innovation, but about finding the right place at the right time. On that day, for that celebration, Pio’s was that place.

Order a pizza and it was very overcooked burnt crust. I took it back and they said that’s how they make their pizzas. I was totally surprised because I don’t know how anybody could chew that crust. They did give me another one and when I got home, it was totally different than the burnt one. So hopefully they make their pizzas always like they make the second one which was good.

Very good pizza, normally very good delivery.

Last night I ordered a buffalo pizza and an order of mozzarella sticks. Pizza was good, couldn’t tell you about the mozzarella sticks— see photo.

Now it was through DoorDash and I was instantly refunded, but I still feel like this is an embarrassing mistake to make— and one that needs to be forwarded to management for QA/QI.

Otherwise out of a dozen orders I’ve had 1 issue, so I’d still highly recommend them.

PS: The last order needed more seasoning

I had a great experience at Pio’s. I heard about this place because I love the sister location Pomodoro. The pizza at Pio’s is a solid 8.9/10. This is by far, some of the best pizza I’ve had in Rhode Island. I ordered both a regular cheese and a hot roni pizza. For a regular cheese pizza, I think it had a good amount of sauce and perfect amount of cheese. The undercarriage was a bit too crunchy for my taste, but the crust was really good. The hot roni was all around really good and the flavors all mixed really well. The appetizers I got were the arancini, fried ravioli, and garlic knots. All of them were great!!! Each one also came with a dipping sauce that paired really well with each dish. I also got the pizza wine which I think paired very well with the entire meal. The service here was also so nice and accommodating. I went on a Thursday evening and the workers here were very hospitable. I also loved the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. It was very aesthetic and clean.

Pio’s Pizzeria never disappoints. The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and on top of everything you can tell they genuinely care. The pizza is consistently amazing, but the eggplant is truly out of this world. Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done every time. One of those places you keep coming back to because it just hits every time. Highly recommend.

Tried Pio’s for the first time. Sat at the bar. Had a Hudson North Cider and thought it was fantastic. For Pizza, I wanted something different, so I went with the Clam Pizza. Thought it was pretty good. Comes with clams, bacon, garlic, tomato chunks and evoo. Flavor was good. Was hoping for a little more flavor. I got a side of the marinara sauce and that the sauce was great. Will likely go with a traditional red sauce Pizza next time. I found myself rushing through slices so I could dunk the crust in the sauce. Pizza was cooked well, did have a little flop, not bad. Google 4, 7.7 of 10 overall.

Screwed up my pick up order both times I tried this place. 1st I ordered a large pepperoni and a small Margarita pizza and got home and it was a small plain cheese! Figured I ‘d give them another chance a few weeks later…ordered a large pepperoni and small Margarita and they made a small Mediterranean! And then argued with me about what I had ordered!!! I have Never had trouble ordering the right pizza my life, ha! If your thing is selling pizza.. maybe you could get the actual order correct to start with! The pie isn’t bad but I won’t be back. There’s a million other places that make mediocre pizza.

First timer and was impressed with the pizza. Excellent pie with quality ingredients. Also tried the meatball and eggplant appetizers which were equally as good as the pizza. Great food. Rated 3 for atmosphere just because the seats were uncomfortable after sitting for a while. Will definitely return and try some different dishes.

I’ve been ordering take out pizza since Pio’s soft opening. The first few large cheese pizzas were spot on perfect. Slowly the quality became inconsistent. Each order placed has been phoned in. The last two pizzas have been over cooked. Despite requesting they not over cook. I decided this Thursday to try one more time. I ordered a cheese pizza with a request they not over cook and add a little extra sauce. This is what I received yesterday. I’m going to take a break from Pio’s and hope the kitchen can resolve the consistency issues. I know they can make a really great pizza because I received several in the early months of their opening.
