We ordered the Whole Meatball Grinder and Whole Chicken Parmesan Grinder, with a side of French Fries. Both grinders were, as the sign outside implies, giant. A half size is sufficient for an average meal portion. The meatball grinder was delicious and hearty, but the chicken parm was the way to go. It’s addiction forming. The fries are crispy and seasoned well. I’d order everything again, but I’d definitely order the chicken parm sandwich. I’m not from the area and hadn’t tried Hosmer Mountain Root Beer before, so I got one from the fridge and liked it, but it’s closer to sasparilla than root beer.

The service made the visit. I’m pretty confident he was the owner, but the man behind the counter made us feel welcomed and took great care of us. He picked up that we were tourists, so he gave us a rundown of the menu, his top recommendations, and was hospitable our entire meal. We could tell he takes great pride in his restaurant, because he knew most patrons by name, and the one’s he didn’t, he began the relationship. If I lived in the area, I’d eat here all the time because of the owner.

I also loved the atmosphere. It’s a small restaurant, and to-go orders seemed to be the main experience, but it’s a quaint dining room and restaurant that hits all the boxes for a home grown spot. I’m a big fan of family-owned restaurants that withstand the test of time. I’ll admit my ignorance that I left still not knowing what defines a grinder, but I’m pretty happy CJ’s is where I ate my first.

I love CJ’s Pizza and Giant Grinders. I will absolutely eat here again if I’m back in the area, and have already recommended to my family to go check it out.

The pizza was crispy with good flavor. It was ready on time when I got there. The sauce is on the sweeter side which is good with me. The crust had a little to much chew for me but was still a good pie and will have it again for sure

Nice little local pizza & subs shop with great tasting food and moderate pricing. Parking is limited, so consider carpooling if you’re coming in a group. Service might be slower during dinner rush due to online orders. Will keep coming back for the fresh pizza and salads – try their house vinaigrette!

I ordered “2 links” and was expecting two full sausages. What I received was one sausage cut in half and packaged as two. I’m sure it wasn’t meant to be misleading, but labeling it as “2 links” when it’s actually just one link split in the middle can be confusing. It would be great if the portions matched the description so customers know exactly what they’re getting.

CJ’s Pizza – A Hidden Gem in Manchester CT!
I can’t say enough good things about CJ’s Pizza! I grew up eating here as a kid, and now that I’ve moved back to town as an adult, it feels amazing to enjoy it all over again. Their Chicken Parmesan grinder is hands-down the best around — perfectly breaded chicken, flavorful sauce, and melted cheese on warm, fresh bread. It hits every time!

What really sets CJ’s apart is the experience. The staff is always friendly, fast, and professional. You can tell they genuinely care about their customers. The management keeps things running smoothly Matthew Maratta you are phenomenal!!! — it’s clean, organized, and always welcoming. Proud to have this gem in Manchester!

Visiting from New Orleans, and wanted local pizza, from a true mom and pop operation.

This fit the bill perfectly. The pizza was perfect. Very high quality, very good mozzarella.

The atmosphere ain’t nothing fancy. No frills, but clean. That’s what we were seeking.

The owner was very friendly, and came out of the kitchen several times to check on his customers.

Very busy place, we were there for the dinner hour. The owner greeted almost everyone by name. If I lived here, this would be my “go to”.

Just ordered a medium pizza. Saw it come out of the oven and told the guy that pizza is far to wrll done for my liking. He looked at me and told me it was not well done. I could see them pulling pizzas out of oven thst were not well done. BS that they csn not keep an eye on a pizza from getting to over cooked. I have had plenty of pizzas from here.in the past. They were not over done like this one tonight. Too bad. I won’t be going back.

I grew up in CT and believe there’s something to be said about Connecticut grinders (besides the fact that most states don’t use the term “grinder”. For my birthday this September, I really wanted a cooked salami grinder from CT. My parents, who live about 2 hours away from me in CT, said “if you want a grinder, we gotta go to CJs”.

I called CJ’s and Nick answered the phone. I explained I live about 2 hours away and asked if there was any way they could prepare a grinder so it’d still be fresh. He replied, “no problem, we do this all the time”. They gave me a perfectly packaged deconstructed grinder and explained how to assemble it and heat it up. I also had asked if they had any gluten free options for my wife. He said they did not, but allowed my parents to bring in a gluten free roll. He didn’t think it would travel well on the roll, so he cut the roll and provided all the fillings to create it (just like the other one).

The grinders were fantastic! They were beyond expectations. My wife loved hers as well. Thank you Nick and the team at CJ’s!

The attached pictures is after we heated it up.

This place is a genuine family owned restaurant. Our server was welcoming with an understanding of patient. The food was worth the wait even in the middle of rush hour. The portions to price ratio is generous. We are new loyal forever customers.
