Reviews
I don’t even know where to start with this place. Every single dish we ordered here was amazing. And the decor was also upscale and much better than every mid-range Indian restaurant I’ve been to. Considering the ambience, the service, and the food, the one feedback that I wanted to give this place was that they could easily price their food at 1.5 to 2x the current rate and still have plenty of business.
My wife and I went here for a weekend lunch. We got the Chicken dum biryani, Karipati goat curry, Chicken lollipop and the Irani chai. In fact, I got two chais just for myself because they were so incredibly good. Every sip made me moan out loud. The portions were huge, and the taste unparalleled. I could sing this place’s praises all day, but it’d be much better if you stopped reading this and just went and had a meal here instead.
Service was slow and bad. Need to call the server every time from placing the order to request check. The place was not that busy as well still the service was not great.
My waitress, Harsh, was the sweetest and gave such good recommendations. I went with her recommendation for Sufi Kaju Chicken and it has to be my new favorite dish.
Highly recommend also getting the iranj chai and the rasmalai (especially if you like cheese / paneer)
I recently placed an online order with Charminar Indian Restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a disaster from start to finish. The primary issue began with the timing; it took over an hour from the time I ordered for the food to even be ready for pickup/delivery. In a competitive food scene like Sunnyvale, a 60-minute lead time for a standard order is simply unacceptable. While I will say the delivery portion of the process was actually quite fast, that couldn’t make up for the fact that the kitchen was clearly struggling to get orders out in a reasonable timeframe.
️ Disappointing Food Quality Across the Board
When the food finally arrived, the quality was a massive letdown. It felt like no care was put into the preparation or the ingredients.
• The Naan: This was perhaps the biggest disappointment. Instead of the fluffy, charred, fresh bread you expect from an Indian restaurant, this naan tasted exactly like a defrosted pita bread. It lacked the right texture and flavor entirely.
• Dry Rice and Chicken: The staples were poorly executed. The rice was incredibly dry, and the tandoori chicken was extremely dry and overcooked, making it tough to eat.
• The Masala: I found the masala to be far too sweet. It lacked the complex, savory spice profile that makes a great Indian dish, tasting more like a sugary sauce than an authentic curry.
Inconsistency and Delivery Realities
I often wonder if some restaurants prioritize their in-person diners while neglecting their online and delivery customers. Maybe the experience is better if you are sitting in the dining room, but for anyone ordering from home, this was a terrible experience. When you pay a premium for Indian cuisine, you expect fresh bread and succulent meats, not dry rice and frozen-tasting pita. The lack of quality control for “to-go” orders is a major red flag for me.
Final Verdict: Not Worth the Wait
I am giving Charminar 1 star. Between the unreasonable hour-plus wait time and the poorly prepared food, there is very little to recommend here. There are far too many excellent Indian options in the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara area to settle for dry chicken and sweet sauce. I won’t be ordering from here again, as this experience was a complete waste of time and money.
A special thanks to Harshdeep Kaur for her excellent service. She was very polite, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout our visit. She checked on us regularly and had a very friendly attitude.
Highly recommend this place for both great food and outstanding service!
