This place is better than average for the food and prices. I had the snapper, catfish, collard greens and mac and cheese. Also got the banana pudding, which was ok. The fish was really good and the collars were really good too. Mac n cheese was NOT to my liking, because it tasted like the kind from Stouffers. All American cheese sauce, not any real cheese flavor. Next time I’ll try the crab cakes and perch and maybe one of their many cakes or peach cobbler. I love that there’s so many types of fish to choose from and you get a good size portion. They have fish combo plates where you can pick ANY 2 or 3 items off of the “fish order” list and comes with fries. Sorry I forgot the pictures

Picked up my food at the exact ready time and food was already cold and very hard when I got home 5 min away. When asked if there was hot sauce in the bag was assured there was enough but only had one for 3 meals when I got home. My fault for not checking but messed up either way. Picture shoes very hard fish. Definitely will never come back ever.

JJ’s fish in the Bay area except for the one in San Francisco and Oakland is awful I want to San Francisco and Oakland is the best for San Francisco number one The one in Antioch that’s not even the JJ fish The one in Richmond that’s not even JJ fish that’s just something that they got propped up there using their name and the owner should be ashamed themselves and everybody in the communities are complaining especially we as homeowners and property owners in each one of these cities why should we have to contend with that and go all the way to the San Francisco open to get served correctly and those desserts they need to just throw that in the garbage can and stop this playing some people want to cook and at that sold to it and they ain’t got no soul Then you got the people that don’t understand the history of Hi JJ’s fish even came about You can’t mimic us You got a special recipe that you supposed to use stick to the script and everything will be fine Stop trying to reinvent and put your own twist to it and people can enjoy the food The desserts suck They ain’t nothing with they used to be making sweet potato pies the desserts and the cakes is old that it’s just nasty

The food is usually good. Sometimes it can be a little heavy on the salt. HOWEVER, DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get the macaroni and cheese. It is worst than Kraft macaroni and cheese in a box. Its watery, no cheese. It’s more like a cheese soup with semi decent noodles in it.

This place is the best I loved deep-fried mushrooms but I got oysters shrimp and mushrooms they were courteous and clean nice bathroom I’m a happy camper I just got off the freeway for a minute because it was so stuffed decided to treat myself to some dinner hopefully the traffic will go down they should stop here anytime you’re in the area if you like different seafood chicken gumbo in a lot of different wonderful Soulfood sides I recommend it

Okay I am from the south and I never thought I could have fried fish and chicken as good as what I had last night. The batter has a little spice that kicks in early but doesn’t overpower the fish or chicken. Fried pickles are using the same batter I believe and are also very good. Hush puppies equally good I will definitely be coming back for those catfish nuggies.wait is about 10 min

The food was phenomenal! I was visiting Richmond for a concert and googled soul food. JJ Fish & Chicken was the closest location so we went. From the Richmond Civic Auditorium JJ Fish & Chicken was easy to find. Parking was available at the time we arrived but I can see how it could be a problem on a more active day. There’s only parallel parking. When you walk in there’s plenty of space to place your order and a dining area to sit to enjoy the food. The restaurant and its restroom were spotless. This was probably one of the cleanest restaurants ever ate at. When we walked in, we were greeted right away and placed our order from a wide variety of selections. I get the fish and chicken combo with fries, red beans/rice, Cole slaw, hush puppies, potato salad, Mac&cheese, fried okra, sweet potato cake and the best pineapple lemonade ever. I enjoyed everything (except the mac&cheese. It tasted like it was straight from a Kraft box). Everything was seasoned to perfection. The portions sizes are pretty generous so you’ll be full for the money you paid. We had a lot leftover. The second meal was just as filling and tasty from the leftover. I had a great experience and would definitely go back.
