Warm, laid-back cafe with memorabilia serving a bevy of Southern breakfast & lunch comfort dishes.

This little hole-in-the-wall place is phenomenal! My husband needed gluten-fee and dairy-free options, and this place delivered that in the most delicious, Southern comfort food way. The staff was super-helpful and kind. The atmosphere was like sitting at your grandparents’ house. And the fact that the food was ready to go, buffet-styled was great because we were HUNGRY from walking around downtown.

Years ago a friend who lived in Port St. Joe brought us here for lunch- and we have added it to our yearly trip. The owners are generous, funny and delightful.Their food is spectacular and not your normal meat and three or cafeteria style, it’s elevated and tastes wonderful! One of our favorite pastimes is on our yearly trip down to the Cape, we read all of the negative reviews and laugh and giggle at the owner’s responses… I would love to give a bad review ONLY to have the owner roast us!! However, we will stick to enjoying the good food, great service and reading the ridiculous bad reviews. Thank you for creating a restaurant that feels like home..we tell everyone we know about y’all!

A friend of mine from St. Joe recommended that we try this place before traveling back home (out of state), and I’m glad we did. The breakfast was excellent. I had the shrimp and grits along with the potato casserole, and we also ordered eggs with a side of breakfast potatoes.
When we arrived, a gentleman behind the serving line greeted us, and another employee took the time to explain the daily specials. While we were eating, two other staff members checked on us to make sure everything was great.
My ratings:
Food: A+
Service: A+
Value/Cost: A+
Cleanliness/Location: A+
Highly Recommended!

Sand Dollar Cafe is a charming local spot with a warm, homey atmosphere and nostalgic décor that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. The cafeteria-style setup is quick and convenient, and I was pleasantly surprised by the many gluten-free options available.
The meatloaf and smashed potatoes were especially tasty—comfort food done right. On top of that, the greeting and service were friendly and efficient, making the whole experience even better. If lunch was this good, I’d bet breakfast is great too!

Breakfast By The Bay in #PortStJoe
It’s a laid-back, cafeteria‑style setting for Southern comfort food with friendly service. Guests select Breakfast or Lunch choices from “behind glass,” and staff plates your selection~no buffet touching required. There is always plenty of food with a variety of options.
Charming Southern Home Decor, you will find family photos, books and collectibles displayed in the main dining room. You feel more like you are dining at someone’s home rather than a restaurant. And the staff treats you like family. They know locals by name.
Outdoor dining is also available on the large patio or intimate screen room. They are pet friendly, so bring your pup and enjoy eating outside with the view of the St Joseph Bay.
This is the place to make new friends, we bond over comfort food and beloved fur babies!

Cafeteria style a la carte dining. We had the “shark.” Got applewood smoked bacon, loaded hash brown casserole, cheese scrambled eggs, and a biscuit. Staff were very friendly and helpful. There is indoor seating, but it was a little warm inside, so we sat on the porch, and that was very nice in the morning. Not crowded and there was no wait.

The Sand Dollar cafe is one of my favorite places to visit whenever we’re in town! Delicious food & generous portions. Cafeteria style so it’s very quick & efficient. Amazing they’ve kept their prices so reasonable. It surely came at a cost. But one of their top priorities seems to be kindness & inclusion. You feel welcomed. It feels like a piece of home. $17 fed our family (2 toddlers, 2 adults). The entire staff is so friendly! Honestly, I would pay $17 just to be in the midst of such sweet humans. The food is a bonus! ♥️

We walked over from Hotel St Joseph on a Monday. We got in line at the buffet, had our selections in minutes. Sat down & chowed down. I couldn’t eat all my food. It was lunch BTW. We will definitely go back, breakfast looks great there too!
Great eating! Great prices! Homey ambiance.

Nice departure from traditional restuaurnt experience. The staff is customer interactive and attentive. The food is served ala carte and is very tasty! The atmosphere is from days gone by and is a welcome alternative to the traditional dining experience. If you find yourself in Port St Joe, FL, do yourself and stop by!
