I cannot say enough wonderful things about our recent visit to Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord Texan. We were there celebrating my birthday and a first date, and “exceptional” doesn’t even begin to cover it. From the stunning recent renovations to the cozy, upscale ambiance, everything was perfect.

The service was the highlight of our night. Our server, Lu, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel like the only people in the room. The GM, David Carlos, also went out of his way to ensure our experience was unforgettable. It is rare to see a management team so invested in their guests’ happiness.

The food was easily the best I’ve ever had. We started with the Texan Charcuterie Board and the Lobster Bisque, both of which were rich and flavorful. For the main event, the Wagyu Porterhouse was cooked to absolute perfection. We paired it with the Roasted Texas Mushrooms, Habanero Creamed Sunglow Corn, and two types of potatoes—the Perfect Baked Potato and the Yukon Gold Mashed. Every bite was a 10/10.
To finish, Lu surprised me with the Cacao Pulse for my birthday, and we also shared the Pumpkin Silhouette. Paired with excellent red wine, champagne, and dessert wine, it was the perfect end to a perfect night. We can’t wait to go back!

The drinks are outstanding, and the bartender genuinely enjoys crafting the perfect cocktail to match your taste, which really elevates the experience.

The food, however, is a bit of a mixed bag. The menu is interesting, but it feels like they try too hard to fuse bold, global flavors into American classics. The crab cakes are a good example—while nicely prepared, the crab is shredded rather than served in the large, lump pieces you’d expect. The garnish and sauce add an unexpected Asian twist that completely overpowers the crab. Thanks, but no thanks—I want to taste the crab cake, not the garnish.

On the brighter side, the truffle fries are a must-order, and the steak is cooked to absolute perfection, exactly what you’d expect from a steakhouse of this caliber.

Overall, Old Hickory Steakhouse shines at the bar and delivers when it comes to steak, but some dishes could benefit from letting classic flavors speak for themselves.

Making a reservation is not a guarantee that you will be sat at that time. After a 20 min delay and being led to a half empty dining room, we were greeted by a very nice “assistant server” who we didn’t see again after getting our bottle of sparkling water. Our main server was very nice when he did stop by. The lobster bisque was tasty though not a traditional style. The Cesar salad, which I added grilled shrimp to, was absolutely beautiful BUT had hundreds of pink peppercorns mixed in. They were overwhelming everything else and made the salad not enjoyable. The lamb rack was the most disappointing dish. It is NOT in fact a rack of lamb as the name would have you believe. It’s two lamb chops caked in a seasoning blend that overpower the meat itself. For $68 a rack of lamb should be just that… a rack. When the waiter was asked about it he said it’s a half a rack. Unfortunately the experience was one I would not recommend others to have. Sad because it has great potential and a nice atmosphere.

Definitely my favorite restaurant , we have been twice this year, and I forgot to leave our review 6 months ago. We just left the restaurant and I couldn’t have had a better birthday than this one. Chef Stvetan, his food and his team, for sure are the best. Thank you so much for this experience and allowing us to enjoy your creations . Lexi and Jasmine, thank you for the wonderful service, we felt at home, we didn’t want to leave. Camille, Nayeli and the other hostess, thanks a lot for the welcoming I loved the smiles and kindness. And from our 6 months ago experience for sure again to chef and team, it’salways delicious food and luxury experience, and the great service from Manny, and Daniel very attentive and professional. Thank you so much for the wonderful service ❤️

This restaurant is absolutely stunning inside—beautiful décor from the tableware and glasses to the artwork on the walls. It has a warm, upscale atmosphere that makes the experience feel special.

The food was phenomenal. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the seabass was outstanding, and the crab cake was fresh and flavorful. The bruschetta salad was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had.

Cocktails were excellent, and the wine selection was impressive. Service was top-notch—attentive without being intrusive. Overall, a truly memorable dining experience that I’d highly recommend.

The only thing I would change was the asparagus was too salty but again I don’t think this was anybody’s fault. Probably just a mistake in the kitchen.

I’ve lived in the area for over 20 years and never had tried this place. First off, it bothered me that to eat at the restaurant (which is inside the Gaylord Texan Resort) you had to pay for parking $30… but finally my wife and I decided to go try it for our anniversary dinner. We’re so glad we did! I hade the Delmonico Ribeye and she had the bone-in Filet Mignon. They were one of the best steaks we ever had. We were saying how the steaks reminded us of eating at the at the best steaks we ever had (Benjamin’s steakhouse on East 41st Street in New York). Kudos to the team…. Awesome service and atmosphere. Oh yes…. They validate parking. We’re coming back for sure.

Staying the Gaylord TX for a conference. I’m always up for a good steak place and Old Hickory definitely did not disappoint.
The atmosphere and decor is perfect for TX: rustic, lots of leather, wood tones, and definitely a feeling of being on a ranch.
Our server was just the friendliest; she was patient with our ordering and almost anticipated our special orders. Very accommodating.
We ordered steaks big enough to share with those at the table: the Tomahawk, The Porterhouse, and the Cowboy. All big cuts of meat (and a deep dive in the wallet.) All presented a perfect medium. All were also served with various sauces (horseradish, blue cheese, and my favorite- Crème au Poivre.) The sides (mushrooms, mashed potatoes, asparagus Brussel sprouts) were also served family style and prepared to perfection.
My favorite steak was the Cowboy: it was so soft and tender, it cut and tasted like butta! A close 2nd was the Tomahawk. Not quite as buttery, but the salt & pepper crust-char was amazing. The Porterhouse was also very good and nothing toss in the trash, by any means, but just didn’t have the ‘mmmmm….yeah!’ that the others had.
Unfortunately, we were too full to have dessert. I will be returning to the Steakhouse tomorrow. I’m going to definitely save room for dessert.

Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord Texan delivers a top-tier dining experience with excellent steaks, an upscale ambiance, and outstanding service. The restaurant has a warm, elegant feel, making it perfect for special occasions or a refined night out.

The steaks are cooked to perfection, full of rich flavor, and paired with delicious sides. The wine selection is impressive, and the in-house cheese cart is a unique touch that adds to the experience. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring every detail is just right.

While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and atmosphere make it well worth it. If you’re looking for one of the best steakhouses in the DFW area, Old Hickory Steakhouse is a must-visit!

As we walked inside Uncle Brett greeted us and offered to take a photo of my wife and I. He was warm and very friendly. He seated us and we had a great conversation as made me feel at home. The restaurant was very nice, warm and welcoming. Christine walked us through the menu and provided excellent recommendations. Chef Garcia prepared our pork belly that was spot on. The drinks we thoughtfully made while the Bone in New York Steak aged 28 days was incredible. Great job the the staff, Chef and management.
