The service was the highlight of our night. Our server, Lu, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel like the only people in the room. The GM, David Carlos, also went out of his way to ensure our experience was unforgettable. It is rare to see a management team so invested in their guests’ happiness.
The food was easily the best I’ve ever had. We started with the Texan Charcuterie Board and the Lobster Bisque, both of which were rich and flavorful. For the main event, the Wagyu Porterhouse was cooked to absolute perfection. We paired it with the Roasted Texas Mushrooms, Habanero Creamed Sunglow Corn, and two types of potatoes—the Perfect Baked Potato and the Yukon Gold Mashed. Every bite was a 10/10.
To finish, Lu surprised me with the Cacao Pulse for my birthday, and we also shared the Pumpkin Silhouette. Paired with excellent red wine, champagne, and dessert wine, it was the perfect end to a perfect night. We can’t wait to go back!
The food, however, is a bit of a mixed bag. The menu is interesting, but it feels like they try too hard to fuse bold, global flavors into American classics. The crab cakes are a good example—while nicely prepared, the crab is shredded rather than served in the large, lump pieces you’d expect. The garnish and sauce add an unexpected Asian twist that completely overpowers the crab. Thanks, but no thanks—I want to taste the crab cake, not the garnish.
On the brighter side, the truffle fries are a must-order, and the steak is cooked to absolute perfection, exactly what you’d expect from a steakhouse of this caliber.
Overall, Old Hickory Steakhouse shines at the bar and delivers when it comes to steak, but some dishes could benefit from letting classic flavors speak for themselves.
The food was phenomenal. The scallops were cooked perfectly, the seabass was outstanding, and the crab cake was fresh and flavorful. The bruschetta salad was honestly one of the best I’ve ever had.
Cocktails were excellent, and the wine selection was impressive. Service was top-notch—attentive without being intrusive. Overall, a truly memorable dining experience that I’d highly recommend.
The only thing I would change was the asparagus was too salty but again I don’t think this was anybody’s fault. Probably just a mistake in the kitchen.
The atmosphere and decor is perfect for TX: rustic, lots of leather, wood tones, and definitely a feeling of being on a ranch.
Our server was just the friendliest; she was patient with our ordering and almost anticipated our special orders. Very accommodating.
We ordered steaks big enough to share with those at the table: the Tomahawk, The Porterhouse, and the Cowboy. All big cuts of meat (and a deep dive in the wallet.) All presented a perfect medium. All were also served with various sauces (horseradish, blue cheese, and my favorite- Crème au Poivre.) The sides (mushrooms, mashed potatoes, asparagus Brussel sprouts) were also served family style and prepared to perfection.
My favorite steak was the Cowboy: it was so soft and tender, it cut and tasted like butta! A close 2nd was the Tomahawk. Not quite as buttery, but the salt & pepper crust-char was amazing. The Porterhouse was also very good and nothing toss in the trash, by any means, but just didn’t have the ‘mmmmm….yeah!’ that the others had.
Unfortunately, we were too full to have dessert. I will be returning to the Steakhouse tomorrow. I’m going to definitely save room for dessert.
The steaks are cooked to perfection, full of rich flavor, and paired with delicious sides. The wine selection is impressive, and the in-house cheese cart is a unique touch that adds to the experience. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring every detail is just right.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and atmosphere make it well worth it. If you’re looking for one of the best steakhouses in the DFW area, Old Hickory Steakhouse is a must-visit!
