We had dinner at Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills and it was an excellent fine-dining experience. The atmosphere is classic and upscale, elegant without feeling stiff, and perfect for a special night out. From the moment we walked in, everything felt well organized and professional.

The food was outstanding. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered, tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. You can really tell they take pride in the quality of their meat and the precision of the preparation. The sides were just as impressive, rich, well balanced, and ideal for sharing.

The service was attentive and polished throughout the evening. The staff was knowledgeable, paced the meal well, and made sure everything flowed smoothly without ever feeling rushed. Overall, Mastro’s delivers exactly what you expect from a top tier steakhouse: great food, refined ambiance, and excellent service. Definitely a place worth returning to for a high end dining experience in Beverly Hills.

The Baseline
The Baseline: For a Steak House Fine Dining experience, the steak must be of high grade prepared to how I order it, the seasoning/flavors must make me salivate for the meat, there must be side dish offering that accompanies the meat, and the experience must make me feel like I am a part of a special experience that is an incredible steak dinner.

Food: Yes the food. The steaks are high grade and perfectly cooked. We had the New York strip and the Ribeye and the texture, seasoning, char on the meat, the juiciness, the flavor of the steaks were soooooooooo good. Joy is the flavor of the meat. The sides do not disappoint either, Mac and cheese is high quality, the mashed potatoes were creamy/seasoned/delicious, and the desert cheesecake was well portioned and not overly sweet with fresh berries. The after diner coffee made me comfortable happy as the finish to an incredible meal.

Service: The serving staff are top notch awesome. Water glasses always full and they are ready for all reasonable requests though I never asked for any unreasonable ones.

Ambiance: I know I am at a steak house when I am here. That dark leather, wood seating decor look, not overly bright lighting with that dancing candle light look, along with the salivating smell of cooked steaks. That is the quintessential steak house experience.

I was really looking forward to coming here. It seemed really nice. I’ve never left a review of any kind for a restaurant before, bad or good. I believe our waiter was named Remi. I had to ask for my first drink of the night 3 times before I waived down someone else. He seemed like a manager I believe. He was great and super kind. He helped me get what I needed that night. When ordering I asked our waited what he thought was the best choice of steak and I ordered the smallest amount 2oz medium. Instead I got a 4oz and very bloody at that. We also ordered the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese it never came to our table and at this point, we just gave up on trying to get what we wanted. The manager did give us a free desert which I liked a lot, it was good and I appreciated how kind he was for doing that. I don’t know if I would ever go here again though sadly.

We chose this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing in many ways.

Ambience: The restaurant was very dark and incredibly loud, making it difficult to hear one another. The live music was turned up too high, which gave the place more of an upscale bar vibe than a fine dining atmosphere.

Food: The food was the biggest letdown. We ordered a Wagyu tomahawk steak priced over $200, but about 75% of the cut was fat and inedible. After one small bite, we stopped eating. We also ordered sautéed broccolini and fries—both were fine but unremarkable. The oddest part was the extremely hot serving plates, which made the food so hot that it burned our tongues.

Drinks: I ordered a Sazerac, but it was harsh and unpleasant. While I’m no whiskey expert, the aftertaste suggested that a lower-quality whiskey was used.

Service: Our server, Momo, was not very attentive. She offered to take photos for a nearby table but didn’t extend the same offer to us. She checked on our meals before we’d even taken a bite and then disappeared until we flagged someone for the check. Water refills only happened when we waved down staff.

Overall: The experience fell short of expectations, especially for the price. We spent nearly $400 and left feeling disappointed—I don’t think we’ll be returning.

Had a great experience at Mastro’s Beverly Hills thanks to Javi’s excellent management. He’s professional, attentive, and runs the floor smoothly, which really shows in the quality of service. Everything felt well organized and handled with care. Managers like Javi make a difference and are a big reason guests want to return.

To keep it simple, the food was not good. They seemed to care more about getting through the service while turning as many tables as possible. The steak was red at some parts and completely well done at others. The cocktails were overly sweet. Sides were way too cheesy. Nothing was balanced. Every table around us sent their first steaks back and were not happy with the new one, and some gave up and got it removed from their bill. Although we barely ate our food and did not ask for to go boxes, our waiter did not acknowledge any of this. It feels like we got scammed.

I can’t believe I’m doing this, but I actually just escaped to the bathroom to leave this review because I’m so unimpressed with my experience here. I share this not to be a hater but because I imagine if you’re coming here it’s for a special occasion or a notable meal, and you won’t be getting that at Mastro’s.

We came here for my father-in-law’s 70th birthday, a fact that restaurant knew. Off the bat they had us on our back foot as we booked a table outside but were told they were “fully committed”. Even though we were early, we still had to wait to sit, INSIDE, until ten minutes after our reservation time.

Then? Thirty minutes until we had menus and water. Forty minutes until we had a waitress. Two hours until our food saw the table, and even then it was incomplete.

The staff was friendly, but the management of this place is clearly ill-equipped to prepare for the logistics necessary of managing a restaurant. Don’t bother, a real disappointment.

Also the atmosphere is like a steakhouse in Vegas (pejorative).

I went to the Mastro’s for Christmas dinner. I had a 5:45 reserv, I got seated at 6:15. They put me at a table that was up against a pillar sandwiched between tables on either side. So close, that the chairs from the other tables were knocking into my table. The volume of noise on the second floor was uncomfortably loud. I ordered a dinner salad with ranch dressing and sea bass. 40 minutes later I still hadn’t received my salad. Then both my salad and my sea bass came at the same time. I never asked for both at the same time. Isnt it customary to bring a salad first!! The waiter took away my sea bass and said he’d have another brought once I was done with my salad. I was eating the salad and I tasted blue cheese which I avoid because it makes me nauseous. I called the waiter and I asked him what kind of dressing he gave me and he said, it was ranch. I said I’m tasting blue cheese and it makes me nauseous. He said, no it’s definitely ranch. I called the manager after learning I had chunks of blue cheese on my salad. I told her that I had asked if the dressing was blue cheese because I felt nauseated. The waiter knowing, that I had told him about it causing nausea never indicated that there were chunks of blue cheese on the salad. The manager remade my salad. When I was ready for my sea bass, I asked my waiter when it would be coming as I had been there for 90 minutes. He said it would be there in 7 minutes. 7 minutes came and went and he said let me get the manager. The manager came over and I explained everything that had been going on with the blue cheese, getting both the salad and the sea bass at the time, etc., He said let me check on your sea bass and brought it to me. The sea bass fit into the palm of my hand for $58, gelatinous and slimmy with no flavor. I will not be returning.
