Update: so good we came back again and food remains delicious. This time we had the Laksa, salted egg fried tofu, and got the Capitain flat noodles again. So. Good!

Came here on a Saturday night and was surprised by a quiet restaurant. Our first impression was a cozy restaurant with hole in the wall vibes.

We were quickly seated and handed menus with a number of Malaysian staples. Everything looked delicious, but we decided on a roti appetizer, fried salted the pumpkin, Tom yum noodle soup, Capitain flat noodles, Malaysian style water spinach, and the beef brisket casserole.

The roti and fried pumpkin came out first, and they were a great start to the meal. The roti was perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The accompanying curry dip was simple yet full flavored. The fried pumpkin was also perfectly fried and the salted egg flavor that’s a part of the batter made it super yummy.

Everything we ordered were great, but the stand outs were the Capitain flat noodles. It was perfectly sauced with this umami brown gravy and included broccoli, mushrooms, shrimp, squid, and chicken. It was a complete meal in one dish.

The water spinach was also fresh with tossed in a blend of garlic and spices. That, along with the curry beef brisket casserole went so well with white rice.

The portions were also large and we took a a bit of everything home. The only dish we were able to finish was the Tom yum soup, which also had a variety of seafood and veggies in it. Not too spicy, not too sour, just right.

We will definitely come back and try other things on the menu, but the one thing we’ll order time and again is the Capitain flat noodles. Definitely one of the more unique but also tasty version of flat noodle stir fry. Our waiter was super attentive and courteous, while the manager/owner came by to check on us several times. Come eat some authentic Malaysian food and support a local restaurant!

When we visited Pandan leaf, they just had a grand opening with lion dance performance! We started with their curry pancake, the bread was so warm, soft and fluffy. Their pineapple fried rice and the tofu dish with vegetables is delicious! My 17 month old toddler loved those 2 dishes. We also tried their hollow green vegetable dish with garlic and hainan chicken, scrumptious, I need to visit again to try out the other Malaysian cuisine offered. Family friendly and cozy environment!

This place just opened recently and I’m not sure if they’re still just figuring their recipes out, because when my friend came a week ago, she said stuff was so great, but then I ordered some of the same dishes and they were just ok.
Our party of 4 (+toddler) ordered the roti canai, satay beef, salted egg calamari, Hainan chicken, and sizzling tofu. The Hainan chicken is free range chicken so the flavor and texture were better. It came with the yellow rice but there was not much and when we asked for a refill, they said they were out. The sizzling tofu was also good and probably my favorite dish. The roti was good, standard. The satay was a little dry, but not too much and the flavor was fine. The salted egg calamari was my biggest disappointment. The texture was good, not chewy, but the pieces were small and the salted egg flavor was very very light.

Overall I might come back to give them another try and check out some of the other dishes. The servers were nice and attentive, and the environment was nice and clean. They brought out kid-friendly utensils when I asked.

If you’re looking for authentic, bursting-with-flavor dishes, Pandan Leaf is an absolute must-try. We started with the oyster seafood pancake, which was crispy and packed with flavor. Next up was the Hainan chicken & Hainan rice—perfectly cooked, tender chicken paired with the most fragrant rice. The roti canai was fluffy, buttery, and complemented by a rich curry sauce. But the real star of the show? The soft shell crab with salted eggs—wow, just wow. The portion sizes were incredibly generous, and every dish was bursting with flavor.

The authenticity of the food shines through, and we’re already planning our next visit to try more items off the menu. Highly recommend! You won’t regret it.

Very good place to indulge in Malaysian Food.

I ordered quite a bit for just two people:

**Roti Canai**
– While not the standout dish of our meal, I thought it would be a good starting point.
– The roti arrived piping hot, featuring a flaky, crispy exterior with a pillowy interior upon tearing.
– The dipping sauce was delightful as well.

**Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak**
– The rice was incredibly fragrant with coconut!
– This dish had an amazing variety of textures and flavors that complemented and balanced each other perfectly.
– Every bite was a different experience!
– I highly recommend this for a quick lunch; it’s a dish best enjoyed solo!

**Water Spinach**
– This dish truly impressed my mom, and she is tough to please!
– It’s similar to the Vietnamese dish rau muống xào tỏi, but with added complexity from the Sambal Belacan.
– Very flavorful—if you enjoy the umami flavor of shrimp paste, this dish is calling your name!

**Singapore Spicy Crab**
– An absolute showstopper! This is a dish to impress (definitely too messy for a date, LOL).
– The waiter even showed us the massive crab we were about to indulge in before cooking, which is always a good sign.
– A good crab should be plump and flaky (not stringy), and the sauce slathered on top was heavenly! I would describe it as a combination of thick egg drop soup and sweet chili sauce. It was so delicious that we even enjoyed it with rice—truly a testament to no waste left behind!

**Final Thoughts:**
– I might have to add this place to my rotation for my monthly trips to Houston!
– No gatekeeping here; I’m all for supporting small businesses!

If you’ve never tried Malaysian food before, you’re truly missing out!

I saw that the Pandan Leaf restaurant was having a grand opening, so I asked my friend to come here to taste Malaysian food. It is a small, cozy restaurant. The service was professional and friendly. I liked their pineapple fried rice because it was so delicious. This restaurant has a variety of dishes from different ethnicities on the menu, such as Indian, Malaysian, and Thai foods. If you want to try out Thai and Malaysian food in the Vietnamese community, then I would highly recommend that you come here.

We had a great time at this quaint restaurant. I had one of my Malaysian friends from out of town come visit, so this place was perfect to try out. We had a seafood noodle dish, roti with the curry potato and chicken stew, chicken satay, hainanese chicken and water spinach, and Malaysian style coffee.

Everything tasted so good, but my favorite was the seafood noodle dish, roti, and the water spniach. I suggest you to order multiple things and eat family style so you can try more things.

The servers were so kind and personable! I wish them so much success and congratulations your Grand Opening!

Ordered the oyster omelet, hainanese chicken rice and sizzling tofu on hot plate. My favorite is the tofu. You can request for sambal belachan too! The rice that was served together also tasted good. One of their staff did not pay attention very much but the other staff was helpful and jumped in whenever we needed something. The outfit of the restaurant was simple and welcoming. Would come back again.

First thing to do when visiting Houston is to look for Malaysian food. The food was good, and the customer service was excellent at Panda Leaf. My family and I had a great lunch. The restaurant has been open for three months. Stop by to check out their popular dishes when you’re in Houston.
