So, my fiance decided to try here after hearing good things.

I had the tenderloin sandwich with fries as side. The service was good, and the staff were friendly.

The food was okay. The fries were the thick, crinkle kind, obviously fried. The tenderloin was also thick, kind, and fried. Indiana is typically famous for large, thin tenderloins, so this took me by surprise. The flavor was okay. The inside was a little mushy. Maybe it could have been cooked slightly longer.

The restaurant was nice.

It was a good diner experience. I got a Rueben Sandwich and it was more of a chopped meat sandwich. Fortunately the pies were spot on and all we could think about is coming back for more pie. The restaurant was clean and inviting, and the service was great. We would go back.

This restaurant is always so warm and welcoming. The food menu has such a variety of items from home cooked lunches and dinners, soups, pasta, variety of fried options, plenty of grilled items and the choices of pies they have available. Staff is great and the owner Jared is #1.

Service was GREAT!!! the lady I had was so patient and understanding with all the meal modifications our party of 10+ had.
Being from a bigger city the restaurant decor was dated and highly used yet they have been operational and around forever. Must be doing something RIGHT

Our waitress was great, she seemed to be working the dining room area by herself (July 12). We had pork tenderloins, always a meal when I am back in Indiana. They were moist and tender. The pickled eggs were great. I had sugar cream pie, which was more of Amish style (this is Adams County), still very good. Really the only issue was the mildew smell upon entry.

Worst food we’ve had in this town so far. Now…bear in mind…I’m not some fancy food critic. I actually LIKE hamburger helper. So this is not coming from some food snob…this was BAD.

First it said “family friendly”. We walked in what we assumed was the front door (based on the parking lot) and a rude woman said, “you have to sit in the back…you have kids.” Well it didn’t look like a bar. I saw no alcohol.

We went to the back…no tables big enough for us back there. Had to sit my kids across the room from the rest of us.

Laughed at the menu. It said we serve Kraft macaroni and cheese and the price for a side of this was $2.99! WOW. isn’t Kraft M&C like $69 a box?

Then on the dinner menu…you had a choice of 2 sides. But…if you wanted macaroni and cheese there was a $.99 upcharge. Really? Kraft macaroni and cheese costs more than a baked potato or french fries?

Food came out. My mother’s salad and mine were BROWN. They tried to serve us rusted lettuce! It was nasty. We sent them back. Second round was slightly better. Tasted like it was a week old.

The kids said it was the worst food they’ve ever had…and they’ve had pretty bad food! Mom’s baked potato was a decent size but my potato was half that size. The roll…was larger than the baked potato!

The waitress was nice enough. But the food and the other people working there would make us never return.

Went there on a Friday evening. Ordered white chicken basket. Waiter came back 10 minutes later said they ran out of white meat chicken. So ordered fish basket. Fish came luke warm. Spent close to 45 minutes before got meal served. Like unable to handle little busy.

A Must-Try for Classic American Fare in Decatur
For those seeking a taste of genuine, home-style American cooking in Decatur, the West End Restaurant is a standout choice. Our recent dining experience was overwhelmingly positive, leaving us eager to recommend this local gem.
The star of the show was undoubtedly the fried fish. Living up to its reputation, the fish was cooked to perfection with a crispy, flavorful coating and tender, flaky flesh. It’s clear why this dish is a local favorite. The accompanying sides of onion rings and tater tots were equally impressive – golden brown, perfectly crisp, and not at all greasy. The salad was fresh and provided a nice, crisp counterpoint to the fried items.
For families with children, the kids’ pizza is a serviceable option. While basic, it hit the mark for its intended audience and served its purpose well.
The only slight dissonance in an otherwise stellar meal was the chicken wings. The wings themselves were sizable, but came battered, which was unexpected. There was also a subtle but distinct taste of the restaurant’s famous fish, which could be attributed to either the batter recipe or the frying oil. This was by no means a deal-breaker, but something for diners to be aware of.
Overall, our visit to the West End Restaurant was a fantastic experience. The quality of their signature dishes and classic sides makes it a highly recommended stop for anyone in the Decatur area looking for delicious, unpretentious American comfort food.

Haven’t been to the West End for awhile so I decided to treat myself. They did not disappoint. Had the chicken dinner with onion rings. I love their breading, I’ve never had anything like it anywhere. Definitely worth the half drive to get here!
