The staff were helpful in explaining the menu and guiding us on what to order, which made the whole process smooth. Service was quick, efficient, and no-frills, but always friendly. Generous portions and consistently delicious meals make this my favorite restaurant in Hyde Park.
I started with some warm pita and fresh hummus, and that set the tone right away — creamy, well-seasoned, and just the kind of appetizer that makes you excited for the rest of your meal. The menu here is packed with classics: chicken shawarma, falafel, grilled kebabs, and even traditional dishes like makloubeh that you don’t see everywhere.
I ordered the chicken shawarma plate with rice and vegetables, and it was really satisfying — tender, juicy meat with a nice balance of spices. Everything felt like it was made with care and meant to be shared. The lentil soup was another highlight: simple but comforting, and perfect for starting off the meal.
What I loved most was the atmosphere. It’s casual and laid-back, with families, couples, and groups of friends all enjoying their meals without any rush. There’s this sense that locals have been coming here for years — and I can totally see why.
Overall, The Nile of Hyde Park isn’t about trends or pretension — it’s about real Middle Eastern flavors served in a cozy, welcoming space. If you’re craving something hearty, authentic, and full of character after exploring Hyde Park or just want a great neighborhood dinner, this place is definitely worth a stop.
Had the sharma combination lamb, chicken and beef meat was overcooked. Rice had minimal flavor.
The dressing for the salad was was watered down which takes away from the character of the salad, usually there are large chunks of tomatoes and cucumber ( basically this was a bowl of lettuce with skimpy pieces of each (see picture). The dinner itself was good but something was missing the squash medley was not seasoned and the potatoes were soft and lacked the crunchy and bit of lemon squeeze ( they were just fried potatoes……. very blah. There is only one waitress…..the same lady that has been there for years everytime I come. I understand she is the only one taking orders and serving which makes her busy but she forgot my drink request after I asked and I still never received it. We only recieved 3 silverware settings and there were 4 of us dining. There were alot of inconsistencies in the service and food that were annoying and plain disturbing.
IT IS JUST NOT THE SAME NILE I USED TO LOVE…… AND SADLY NOT FOR THE BETTER !!!!
