I visited In-N-Out Burger for the first time and picked up lunch through their drive-thru. I’ve heard so much about it over the years, since it’s a West Coast classic and not something you really get on the East Coast.
I ordered a simple hamburger with fries. I’d heard a lot about their famous “animal fries,” though I didn’t see them on the regular menu at the time.
The burger itself was very good, especially compared to most fast-food chains. The vegetables, lettuce and tomato were very fresh, crisp, and juicy. The patty tasted good, and the bun was properly toasted, not soggy at all. The burger wasn’t greasy, held together well, and felt nicely balanced overall. I genuinely enjoyed it.
The fries, however, were a letdown. While the portion size was generous and they looked fine, the texture was off, spongy and not very potato-like. They didn’t have that fresh, crispy fry feel. I’m not sure if it was just an off day or something about how they’re prepared, but they didn’t live up to expectations.

My go-to In-N-Out since childhood, and had my very first meal here in years a few days ago. I got the Flying Dutchman and animal fries which were both delicious, and best eaten fresh. I always like to get the banana peppers. Service is quick. Tables are clean. Make sure you remove all valuables in your car as the parking lot does have theft.
