Why Not
Food was literally crusted over, and there were no staff to support in person customers. We walked in and the place was a bit busy but it was clear that no one was getting served despite there being 5 or 6 employees making food for mobile orders. They had 2 separate assembly stations. The mobile order one seemed good but the in person on had no one to help, the food was super crusted over and looked disgusting. It was awful. The employees helping were also clearly instructed to prioritize the online orders over in person. We had to waive someone down to take our order after waiting 5 minutes at the counter. And even after our food was ready, we had to wait another 5 minutes to have some ring us up. It was really bad. And the food tasted how it looked, old and crusty.

grabbed a burrito through the drive through only to find a bug in the container upon arriving at home. was offered a quick refund and the apology seemed half assed. didnt catch the name of the person who helped me with the refund but I’ll never trust this location again.

Our recent experience at this Cafe Rio location was beyond disappointing.

Went to this Cafe Rio on Sunday around 8:10pm with a group of 15 (they close at 10pm). As soon as we walked in, one of the workers got on the headset and warned everyone about us like we were a problem. Staff was whispering, clearly not happy to help.

When I ordered a red sauce enchilada, I was told they were out because the “sauce guy” was on break. Then the so-called manager, Ayanna, jumped in with a totally different story — that the sauce delivery comes the next day. Neither of them seemed to care about helping, just wanted us to leave.

The food line was a mess — crumbs, spills, just dirty overall. I’ve been coming here for 2 years and never seen it like this. We ended up canceling our order and went to the American Fork location instead, where they welcomed us with a smile and made great food.

Management at this location seriously needs to evaluate Ayanna’s professionalism and leadership. If this is the kind of experience guests get before closing time, you will absolutely lose loyal customers. Big difference in how the two locations treat people.

Me and my husband have been using the $20 double meal deal and every time we use it the workers roll their eyes and act annoyed with us. Our food this time was watered down so much everything was soggy and disgusting. Everytime we have used this deal we have been unsatisfied with our food and service and will not be coming back.

Dry rice. Oily beans. No salsa. Got a quesadilla with… beef? #utahhealthdepartment

I hope I don’t get sick from this. Im nauseated thinking I was about to eat that. Sorry if you are nauseated just looking at it. I will never go to any Cafe Rio again. They’ve been bad for a while, it seems. Now I’ve decided to never give them business again. This is a joke at this point. Owner and manager should be ashamed.

I know times are tough with finding employees.. but goodnight. I come to this cafe rio often and I don’t recall a time they’ve gotten everything in my order correct.
Today I ordered a bowl with street corn, guac, cotija, no lettuce or pico. Received: bowl with sour cream?, no cheese of any kind, pico, lettuce, no street corn or guac. All of which I paid extra for, mind you. This is just one example of what happens every time I come. I’ve asked for sauce on the side, I receive the wrong kind of sauce NOT on the side. I asked for queso and I received a huge tub of enchilada sauce??? These employees are just free styling at this point. In addition they hand you all of your food upside down and sideways in the worst bags for the shape of containers the food comes in ever.
I know it’s my fault for continually returning back to a restaurant that does nothing but disappoint me but I think this is the last straw. Goodbye Pleasant Grove Cafe Rio.
Also, before the manager / owner gets on here to say “we take pride in the quality of our food or I hope you give us another chance” like they respond of everyone I think we would all like to know WHAT you are doing at cafe Rio to insure quality? What are you doing to change that would make any of us actually want to give you a second chance? Given that pretty much every review is saying the same thing I think there is some inner work to be done. Please inform us what steps you’re taking to make the pg pleasant grove experience worth spending our money at again.

This location needs a better management and employees. We waited while an employee got their meal and then only one employee worked. There were 5 employees with one helping all the customers. The food was not good, the chicken was very dry and tough. We ended up throwing away our salad. I had to give a star, but would have liked to not give any. Needs better employees and fresh food.

My wife and I work near this Café Rio, so it’s been our go-to spot for convenience—but after repeated letdowns, I can’t stay silent. The service here isn’t just subpar; it’s consistently abysmal. Take portion sizes: you ask for something simple like chips on the side, and they toss in a pitiful handful that barely dusts the bottom of the tiny queso container. We’ve requested extra lettuce multiple times, hoping for a generous topping, and instead get a measly few strands—hardly enough to call it a garnish, let alone a serving. A “normal” amount? I’d expect at least a decent scoop of chips and a hearty pile of lettuce, not this stingy, laughable excuse for portions.
Then there’s the wait. Our last drive-thru visit had us trapped for a full 20 minutes—no exaggeration—just to get our food. Twenty minutes for what should be quick fare is inexcusable. If this were a one-off flop, I’d shrug it off, but it’s a pattern. The staff seems indifferent, the execution sloppy, and the experience draining. For comparison, the Café Rio five-ten minutes down the road actually delivers what you’d expect: decent portions and service that doesn’t test your patience. Save yourself the frustration and skip this location.

UPDATE: Can it get any worse? I just found a hair at the bottom of my food. Disgusting.

The service was sub par, the burrito I got was basically only rice and beans, the queso was like cement, the chips were stale and all of the cold items looked bad or rotten and they said they had no black beans. I will give my business to costa vida from now on.

Asked for no tortilla due to gluten allergy and they have me a tortilla. Asked for chopped lettuce and got shredded. Got a tiny dressing for a big salad. Half the size of the other Cafe Rios. Hardly any chicken. Brown guacamole. I’m honestly not even going to eat it so there is 20 bucks down the drain. Thanks.
