I really wanted to love this, but the experience on the private side was… very average.
Service was subpar, especially compared to the public side, which is honestly much better. It felt disengaged and inattentive — whether that’s because of the automatic 20% gratuity or because I was a guest and not a member, it definitely showed.
The food?
No. Just no.
Again, the public side is significantly better in terms of food quality and consistency, which makes this even more confusing.
That said — the atmosphere is amazing. The location, the ocean views, the overall vibe are unbeatable, and that’s truly what saves this place from being a 2-star experience. The setting does a lot of the heavy lifting here.
Bottom line:
Come for the atmosphere, but if you’re deciding between sides, the public side delivers a much better overall experience.

We had such a great experience at California Surf Club. The food and drinks were excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the service was truly outstanding. We showed up with a group of eight without a reservation and they accommodated us immediately and were incredibly attentive the entire time. Watching the sunset over the lagoon and marina made the evening even more special. Highly recommend—this place checks all the boxes.

Fantastic experience here! Very welcoming from the moment we walked in. The service by Nicole was fantastic so knowledgeable and had lots of suggestions . Allowed us to take our time and soak in the beautiful setting of the outdoor patio and the ocean just outside! Feels like a real treat to dine here! We’ll be back!

We had a wonderful dinner at the Surf Club tonight! The food was amazing – we had crab and artichoke dip, fries, the seafood pasta special, fish sandwich, tomato soup, cauliflower, mud pie and key lime pie. All awesome and just as delicious as any of the top South Bay restaurants + it has a view that rivals Shade in Redondo and Strand House in Manhattan Beach.
The service was also really lovely, the view and decor were beautiful and it has a relaxed family-friendly vibe. Perfect for watching a game, or just enjoying a cocktail with apps during their daily happy hour. Parking was also super easy. We’ll definitely be back often!

Ceviche was amazing. Drinks and service were great. I little pricey but we had a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
Edit: Thanks to the manager for the reply! I wanted to clarify the price issue was bc I ordered a “house cab” and it came back at $23. It has cork bits in it. I am not usually one to complain, but if I had known how much it was, I would have said something.

Our party of 8 was pleasantly surprised when we walked up and found friendly staff who worked on getting us a table fast, especially on a holiday. The host answered all of our questions and our server Kamau was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu from drinks to food. The staff from being to end were helpful and even allowed our group to walk on to the patio when the fireworks started. We also never went without drinks. This place is not just great food portions for the price, but also children friendly. We hope this restaurant will continue to strive for the service provided tonight.
