It started well when we first arrived. Both the waitress and the waiter greeted us and asked us to wait for them while they cleaned up a table of 2 customers who had just left for us. We were asked to scan the QR code on the table to see the menu and order.

We ordered a lunch special A with Taiwanese beef noodles and 2 side dishes which are cucumber salad and seaweed salad, a Dan Dan noodles, and an order of xiaolongbao. My husband’s Dan Dan noodles came first and it was good. Xiaolongbao came when my husband was halfway done with his noodles, so I asked the waitress about my lunch. She responded that it would be coming in a few minutes.

We split the xiaolongbao as there were 6 of them in the steam basket. It was good but still not as good as the ones served at Dingtaifung in Taiwan. I was just done with my last xiaolongbao when the waiter came and told me that he needed to cancel my lunch special as his staff could not make it today so I should order something else. I was not very happy as they should have told me at the time when we placed the order over half an hour ago, or when they brought us our first order. Why wait until when we were done with everything else before they told us that they could not make our last order?

I was going to give them a 4- or 5-star rating depending on the quality of the remaining order, but this unacceptable service just pushed me to give an overall 2-star rating.

Stopped in for early dinner the other day. Ordered beef brisket bento, chicken corn pot stickers, beef pancake, salt pepper chicken wings, beef onion dumplings and beef soup noodle. The food came out pretty quick. All the food was delicious. The beef pancake was crunchy and had a soup filling like Shanghai soup dumpling. The post stickers were nice and crunchy. The broth for the soup noodles was really tasty. The beef brisket bento, was first time I’ve had it with a beef gravy and I loved it. Chicken wings tasted more like popcorn chicken instead of salt pepper chicken and it was still good. I think the beef onion dumpling had the same doing as the beef pancake, also very good. Overall everything was good. They even sell the dumplings frozen if you wanted to take them home. Definitely will be back to try done other stuff. Staff was very friendly, seems to be family run.

No. 5 House – San Mateo
Upon entering No. 5 House, the restaurant made a positive first impression with its clean interior and tasteful décor. At the time of my visit, there was only one other customer, and I was invited to sit anywhere. I chose a corner table near the window, which was comfortable and quiet. Ordering is done via a QR code at the table, which was convenient and straightforward.
I ordered the braised beef noodle soup, spicy peanut wontons, and a Coke Zero. There was a minor mix-up with my drink, as I was initially served a Diet Coke instead of a Coke Zero, but the server quickly apologized and corrected the order.
The braised beef noodle soup arrived hot, which I appreciated. The noodles appeared to be hand-pulled and were soft and enjoyable. The broth was decent but lacked depth and could have benefited from more flavor. The beef was somewhat tender but had a slight chewiness. Considering the portion and overall execution, the price felt higher than justified.
The spicy peanut wontons were the most disappointing part of the meal. While they were presented well, once mixed, it became clear that there was no peanut sauce present—only chili oil. The wontons were only lukewarm and fell short in both flavor and execution.
Throughout the entire meal, I was not once checked on or asked if I needed anything else. The lack of attentiveness stood out, especially given how empty the restaurant was. Unfortunately, the service was mediocre, and the food did not meet expectations for the price.
This restaurant has potential, but improvements are needed in service, consistency, and value. Due to the overall experience, I would rate No. 5 House 2 out of 5 stars.

Great place to get my stinky tofu fix! Our waitress was really attentive. Food is on the oily side. Strangely enough the deep fried tofu is less oily than the other items we tried. But overall taste is good.

This restaurant is a hidden gem! From the moment we walked in, the warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The menu is packed with authentic flavors — we ordered the pan fried bun, spicy wonton, scallion oil noodles, popcorn chicken, braised beef and green long beans.
The restaurant specialize in dumplings and bun fillings. Every dish was bursting with depth and perfectly balanced seasoning.

Definitely come back again to try more items.

As a Taiwanese American, I fully endorse No.5 House we ordered beef noodle soup and the crispy beef buns. The vibe was chill and relaxing. The employees were friendly and attentive. They also sell a huge variety of frozen dumplings and buns to take home. I’ll definitely return whenever I’m craving that simple and delicious Taiwanese home cooking.

This restaurant offers flavorful dishes and generous quantities. We went there last night just 15-20 minutes before the closing time and the staff quickly served us food and let us dine in. We ordered the spicy braised beef noodle soup and the beef udon noodles. Both were fantastic and packed with flavor. Would definitely dine here again. Aside from the food, we really loved the service, it felt very warm and welcoming.

No 5 House is 5 stars! My kids ate *everything* including the vegetables, they never do that. Really liked the fried bao (sheng jian bao) and beef noodle soup and smashed cucumbers

Great service, clean restaurant, delicious food that isn’t too salty/oily at an affordable price. Kids liked the Taiwanese sausage bento and the soups, look how clean they picked it!

Newly opened chinese restaurant at downtown. I stopped by during lunch time. It was not that busy. This place serves chinese/taiwanese dishes. You ordered using the qr code at your table. I ordered bento fried porkchop. It took a while for the order to be ready. The dish is good but the porkchop is a bit dry. The egg is yummy though. I wish the meat the put on the rice is warm. It was cold but ok. It has section where they make dumpling In house.
Overall it was good meal. Will try other stuff next time.
