Social Profile:

On the 33rd birthday celebration of his dear friend Charlie Mugavero, Tony Mazzola got the attention of all of the customers in the gourmet restaurant, Rich and Charlie’s, and had them all sing and celebrate. This would be the last time that Tony would see his beloved friend and mentor. Shortly after, Charlie Mungo Mugavero would die in a plane crash alongside his wife and 36 others. Tony Mazzola would go on to honor his friend’s legacy by opening several restaurants under the name Mungo’s. There have been several locations in the past, but Mungo’s, the ninth location since 1983, is currently located at 100 E Main Street in Collinsville, IL.

Long-running restaurant offering original & traditional Italian-American suppers, plus a full bar.

This place was amazing. We were in town for a few days and decided to give them a try. The food was excellent and the service was great. If i lived in town I would eat there every week. They kept the bread coming out hot and fresh.

When you first walk in you get a wiff of sewer smell, other then that I like the building it’s in. Salad was really good, the veal was good but the meatball sub and wings were not that great, had shrimp as a an appetizer and seemed like it was just soaked in butter. Waitress was nice but never asked how the food was or could never get a refill on my drink. Over all the place was just okay.

Mungo’s is a true gem for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine. The special attention in both the food and the service makes for a genuinely enjoyable dining experience. Charles and Celia are a dynamic duo that cater to your every whim. Tony, the owner, guarantees perfection is executed in every detail. I highly recommend indulging in a perfect dessert!!

Fantastic italian food, top notch service, and the decor was just right! I only give it 4 stars because it is definitely a little on the expensive side! Don’t forget to try their made in-house cheesecake it is fabulous!!!

Staff was very friendly, but half attentive. Place was clean. Food was average – not great, but not bad either. A couple odd nuances like brutal daylight bulbs over the bar yet warm lights over the dining area. A mashup of light fixtures. Our large table had a spotlight over it which wasn’t pleasant. Small details like those were overlooked (should have expected as much based on the number of spelling errors in their online menu). I’d go back if we’re in the area at dinnertime.

This place is an experience. We knew we were some place special from the moment we walked in. We were lucky to have Charles as our waiter. He was attentive, entertaining, and a true part of the history of Mungo’s. Some of the best toasted ravioli we have ever had. The house salad is unique and very delicious. We would definitely recommend the lasagna, tortellini, or three-way pasta, all were exceptional. Everyone needed a box for leftovers and while we didn’t think we had room for dessert, it was my wife’s birthday and they provided complimentary cheesecake, which we all shared, and it was fantastic!. Tony, the owner of mungo’s, even stopped by our table personally to check on our experience. This is a first class experience that you do not want to miss.

Lets start by saying that this place is a well oiled machine. The service was top notch. There are not enough restaurants that work this well. Our food while pretty good, left us wondering if we should have ordered something else. Im not sure how to describe it.

I couldn’t get past the smell. I went to dinner with my girlfriends, the service was great, the food was okay, but the subtle sewer smell was too much. It was even worse near the back by the bathrooms, one friend said the smell was there when she went with her husband as well.

Our waiter was a long time employee, very dedicated, he told about the salt shaker hack to get his attention, let us taste test a wine, very happy with the experience, food was excellent.
