For over 75 years, the Vergos family has been serving their signature dry rub ribs in a basement through a downtown alley in Memphis. While the ribs are still the calling card, the menu is expansive with salads, brisket, chicken, nachos, sausage and cheese and more. A big part of what makes The Rendezvous special is the experience: The smoky aroma is grilled meat and barbecue shake. The sounds of Memphis soul and Delta blues, cut with clinking beer mugs and laughter. The taste, a perfectly seasoned Southern heaven. An experience you can only find at the world-famous Charlie Vergos Rendezvous in Memphis. It’s a legendary experience whether dining in, taking out, shipping across the country or catering an event.

I highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back!
We tried brisket, small order (ha! Not small at all) of ribs, and a cheese and sausage platter. It was awesome, and we finished maybe 1/3 of it, portions are huge. I loved the beans! Somehow, I think I ate more of the combination of sausage and beans than the ribs. Well, with all of the leftovers, bbq for breakfast upcoming.
Bonus points: the gluten free options are marked in the menu!
The establishment itself definitely is history and has the look about it and I appreciate that.
Definitely look forward to coming back and hopefully this time they will have the lamb!
Sauce, beans, dry rub are all very good
If you like fall of the bone ribs, these are not the ribs to go for.
Brisket was good but not slow cooked the way I prefer.
My job involves a ton of travel. Anytime I am in a “BBQ city” I like to give it a try. This was my first Memphis BBQ experience. For reference I like Texas Brisket and Carolina for pork.
The ribs are cooked quickly and are more on the firmer side compared to “fall off the bone”. I actually prefer my ribs this way, but others expect fall off the bone.
The brisket is also cooked quickly. The flavor in there but don’t expect a smoke ring or Smokey flavor.
The star of this BBQ is the dry rub, sauce and baked beans. All of which were very flavorful. The atmosphere and servers are authentic and top tier. I’m sure that there are better spots in town for BBQ, but this one gets enough right in my opinion to stop by.
