We were told we had to try the clam chowder which I did and yup, it was really tasty too. My fried scallops weren’t battered which was surprising and my preference, they were clean, no sand bites. He tried the crab rangoons, they were okay but he wished he’d gotten the chowder after tasting mine. Good prices for lunch and their house margarita was refreshing too.
We definitely arrived before the dinner crowd but when we left more people were dining outside, we prefer indoor and especially when not crowded inside. We recommend and we will come again when he craves fish & chips not far from home.
Oak tables, clean appearance, real silverware, and cloth napkins. I had the Fish n Chips. I got 3 pieces of Haddock, fries, and Cole Slaw. The fries were good, I thought the Cole shaw was very good.. the tarter sauce was served in an aluminum serving bowl. Not the squeeze packets. I would come back in the future if in the area again. This is a nice town, and the people were friendly.
Best dishes – the Maine steamers and the clam chowder (get the bowl!). Shrimp scampi was a little bland, seafood sampler was too oily for me, French onion was salty but not savory as expected, and the lobster was solid fun watching the kids take it apart ($39 each for the market price that day). Garlic rolls with the mains were excellent. Had to stop myself from eating the whole basket… the main also came with veggies to the side and the mashed sweet potato was excellent.
Service was good, even as it was busy. And the staff was friendly and accommodative. Very helpful!
I have several go-tos (including fish and chips, scallops and the steamers) but always start with the clam chowder which compares favorably to any good chowders in New England. Tonight I had the ahi tuna, rare with wasabi and it was excellent as usual. The fantastic sides included squash, garlic mashed potatoes and green beans.
My wife, a picky eater, is always agreeable to dinner at The Anchor and went with her staple the Seafood Medley. Clean plate.
My adult son usually goes fish and chips but had a tomato based soup instead and reported it was very tasty and hearty.
The bar is top notch featuring creative Vermont infused mixed drinks but I went with the usual ice cold Fiddlehead draft.
The service is always friendly, accommodating and shows attention to detail. We have never had a single snafu on an order.
The news gets better when the check arrives and you realize your entree was slightly more expensive than a meal at Panera back in Mass.
Highly recommend on any weekend we are not visiting so we get in.
