We came during lunchtime, so it wasn’t very busy, which made for a relaxed visit. I gave 4 stars mainly because we only tried a simple meal, but next time we’re in the area, we’d love to come back for dinner and try some of their main dishes.
Our server, Matthew was courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. We had a Caesar salad, and for entrees the salmon, chicken cacciatore, chicken saltimbocca, and tortellini. All were tasty with generous portions. We had wine by the glass (Super Tuscan – good).
When we finished, out of curiosity, we asked the patrons at a table closer to the front if they had requested that table. They said “no”. When we mentioned this to the hostess, while pointing to tables that were still empty, she became defensive. I suspect they have a system that assigns tables as reservations are made, and haven’t figured-out how to adjust based on patron requests.
Vesuvio is basically still Armando’s food-wise. It appears that it wants to distinguish itself from Armando’s Winter Park. The food is above average and represents good value for its prices. But the hostess’ attitude made a bad impression and I doubt we will return.
My friend ordered from the special “Magical Dining” menu. A photo of the choices is posted. Basically its a 3 course meal for $40. There are a number of Orlando restaurants that participate in it woth a portion of sales going to a charity. Some restaurants do charge $60. You can see restaurants and costs on Magical Dining website.
He started with the calamari which were not your typical rings but small octopus. Ad such the pieces were hit or miss with MANY being overly chewy. For his entree he ordered the Salmone Sofia. He said the salmon was excellent. For desert he ordered the tiramsu which was to die for!
Although the food choices we had were good for the most part there were a few issues. I was also disappointed as they do not have a pasta with a meat sauce on the lunch menu.
The service and value has gone down hill significantly though. Our experience the last time we went was awful. Got up charged $14 for asking for a simple change in pasta shape that had previously been done as a courtesy. Not asking for it to be free, but increasing the price from $16.95 to $31 (and not mentioning it ahead of time) is just bad customer service. Will not be back for some time.

I recently visited Armando’s Italian Restaurant with a friend who was visiting from Houston, and our experience was fantastic. From the moment we walked in, our server made us feel incredibly welcome and provided attentive service throughout our meal.
We started with the calamari, which were cooked to perfection—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The bread served was absolutely to die for; we couldn’t get enough of it! In fact, we enjoyed our meal so much that we returned the next day to try their pizza and salad, both of which were excellent.
The only downside was the drinks, which we found a bit lacking. There’s definitely room for improvement in that area. However, the overall experience, especially the food, more than made up for it.
Armando’s is definitely worth visiting, and we’ll be back for sure!
